Test plot of chickpeas planted here May 17 and 18 at 3 bushels, on some very sandy loam. Six weeks ago they weren’t worth a hill of beans 😂, they loved that heat with 7/10 rain in July. They have filled in, covered the soil grown to 1-1.5 feet, podded 10-20 pods per plant with no sign of disease at all - yet. Problem is they need a long time to finish. A very interesting experiment. Time will tell the tale of Chicos in severe drought. These are the experiences that make farming interesting. One thing I don’t see around here this year is hemp. Those experimental pre-sold 5-6000 acres weren’t repeated nor increased. Very little flax around here and the fields we see are yikes. Thursday is our special crops tour, one area that we won’t get to is Weyburn-Estevan That will wait until next week when we have to go to MB to pick up a greenhouse cover.
