The level of coverage is so out of touch with
Costs and rhe fact that not much rain kicks
You out of coverage. An inch of rain in a dry
Spell of 35 to 40 degrees weather with wind
Does a lot less for grass than an inch of rain
At 20 to 25 degrees. It becomes a lottery just as
    The above poster mentioned.

Bottom line totally inadequate for 200 buck
Bales not to mention the trucking. And a
Flawed so called relief in doubling the write off
    It hasn’t helped anyone here

Now if I get a dump of rain at the end of August it’ll “average” out and no payment as well. It’s a junk program in my eyes compared to production insurance. Why can’t I have production insurance on my biggest and riskiest crop…….. grass?

      *end of rant*

I asked SCIC what the low yield appraisal is for hayland ...and it should be doubled just like a grain crop..then zeroed and I can graze it ...its never been grazed and it may well **** the hay for next year.

      They hadn't been asked that.

So its a little concerning that government people can't think things through.

Never said it was perfect but a much better tool of protection than agstability.Simple is good.Rainfall insurance simple agstability not.I wish they offered it on crop land.at least the extra money put into saving a crop is not just saving crop insurance money.

They intentionally will keep out of any real help for farmers or livestock producers in western Canada . That has been clear for several years .
When you look at the current federal government, they are simply following the lead on UN 2030 , and this drought will be their gateway .
Most people in ag did not take this seriously enough .
They want to end private land ownership.... so why would they do anything extra ? People need to think about that . It’s right there in print . They have even publicly stated it recently.
This is a dream come true for this current federal government.
We will get virtually no real help from the feds , we will be on our own to make it or not .

They want to end livestock production and severely limit grain production via carbon tax’s and mandatory fertilizer reduction .... again publicly stated .
So why would they help struggling farms in western Canada ? They want us out and have basically said so.
They want all organic hobby farms and return most land back to First Nations . Why do you think that the vast majority of this residential school thing is focused primarily in western Canada and barely a word about the ones that were in Ontario and Quebec?
There is a much bigger picture to this and this drought came at the right time for them and the worst possible time for us . Any relief that does come will have unworkable strings attached , unlike all the free money going to Quebec from industry to child care ... all zero strings .., there is a reason , and it’s not just votes .

I may be not 100% correct but every thing is lining up exactly this way

If that’s true it certainly makes our western MPs
And mlas in the rural areas even more like
            Fools!

Historically....if you look at some of your neighbours and every community has them ...bankruptcy is just good business practice..

Bid big and then go bankrupt and keep the land at a discount..

FCC will be working with the second generation of these shysters .

The US has some kind of system where the counties declare national disasters like was in the news with Hurricane Katrina. Happens relatively quickly and can work well.

But is also subject to huge political abuse similar to the Canadian east west thing.

I think they also have state disaster criteria and maybe county also?

Was on the Califonia coast on holiday couple of years ago when it rained for 2 days maybe 1.5 inches and the declared some type of disaster. Was not even inconvient but shifted the expense upward.

More clear cut response much quicker but shows some problems.

Who can argue with an official disaster?

I heard lots of farmers renting/leasing cows are giving them back to theirs owners. Some of owners don’t even farm anymore and they will have to find someone to take them.

Thems the hazards in leasing cows.
                          Most often ends that way
                          Or worse
