For perspective....Dofasco and ALgoma each got 400 million in the last two weeks.

Why not a CEBA style loan for 5 years and a 25 percent grant at the end.

94 bucks a head from Alberta 136 million with an additional 104 from federal government by the end of the year.

Election is in the way of the federal commitment.

If approved, the total amount would be $340 million split 60-40 between the federal and provincial governments. Alberta’s contribution is $136 million. Under a new AgriRecovery program, this will provide an immediate payment of $94 per head to help cover feed and water access costs for breeding females across the province.

Taking a receipt-based approach, a second payment of $106 per head will be allocated later in the year, for a total of $200, the province says. “This will help level the playing field against a U.S. feed subsidy and maintain our livestock herds in Alberta.”

Receipt based approach???????ranchers have no money to buy additional feed for the extra months of feeding required.

The feed will be in the states by then....

Sounds like $94 per “breeding female” soonish and $106 later to cover feed, fencing, water etc……

It definitely takes the edge off. Still got hungry yearlings but it could always be worse and we’ll still be able to roll the dice again.

Hmmmm ………. I wonder what hay prices will do now?

I haven’t been able to walk across this ditch since 2003. Usually water up to the grass and beyond. Checking fence on a pasture that has been partially under water most years but will be cow chow this year.

because grain prices are high and no one in government can do math...a 15bpa wheat crop at 10 bucks is 150 an acre. A 30 bpa crop at 7 bucks is 210...Still seems a grain farmer is short a few bucks no different than a cattle guy for high priced feed and selling cows into a depressed market.

I feel for the cattle guy...they are taking a shit kicking .

Grain farmers are not far behind.

No vision for farmers by government in this country. They told us to be businessmen , they wanted farming to be big business ...they have small minded solutions.

Nice to see the cow guys and gals getting some government support. I feel that this drought will hit them the worst but even with money there is still only so much feed out there and we will see cow numbers decline.

Who's going to be applicable for it?

It's probably only going to be accessible to a small portion of people/herds but it's going to drive the price up for everyone.

I don't mind not getting funding, I have a tiny herd, but by offering funding things are going to become inaccessible for me and I'm sure many others.

The hay lottery was a better idea than just giving money. Governments should work towards bringing in feed from other areas. Ontario, Eastern States.... giving us money won't give us more feed. The feed is short, money won't magically create it. Ship in bales, ship in grain. Feed prices are just going to go up and up. Heard of a barley field started, they did a couple rounds, hopper was still empty. Tossing money at farmers with that issue is not going to get grain to buy.

Yeah it's great for those that can get it but it's still just a feeble patch. The total amount will look good to outsiders but the beef people aren't really going to be helped all that much.

The feed is in grain farmers fields...they should have said " if you allow your field to be baled or for cattle feed of some sort we will call it zero , use your guarantee and pay you a fair market price for the crop"

Instead they set the low yield to low , doubling didn't help...and just got ranchers and farmers hating each other again..

They wanted farming to be big business...they are using small mind thinking to get through this.

If you want agriculture to succeed through this ,, you are talking billions to keep moving forward...like 10 billion.

My math is right.

FFS Alberta gives 136 million for all the ranchers in Alberta and not long ago gave 133 million for the Chin Reservoir expansion...correlate the numbers....ranchers got short changed.

Its just insulting....no one says thank you after being kicked in the balls...
