COVID-19 cases skyrocket in Alberta with 501 new infections recorded in a single day

    https://www.theglobeandmail.com/canada/article-covid-19-cases-skyrocket-in-alberta-with-501-new-infections-recorded/

Alberta has recorded 501 new cases of COVID-19 – the largest single-day increase since late May.

The new infections reported Wednesday increased Alberta’s active case count to 3,769.

Almost 44 per cent of active cases are in the Calgary zone, followed by about 22 per cent in the Edmonton zone.

Alberta currently has the highest active case count in all of Canada.

Hospitalizations rose by five to 138 and intensive care unit admissions by two for a total of 31.

Dr. Deena Hinshaw, Alberta’s Chief Medical Officer of Health, said on social media the majority of Albertans facing severe outcomes are either unvaccinated or partly protected against COVID-19.

About 85.9 per cent of non-ICU patients are unvaccinated or have some vaccine protection. The same goes for 93.5 per cent of people in intensive care.

Most testing, tracing and isolation measures have ended in the province, with quarantine requirements lifting for positive cases next Monday.

Ahead of additional provincial guidance, some schools in Alberta have chosen to reinstate COVID-19 safety measures for returning students and staff.

On Wednesday, the Calgary Board of Education announced mandatory masking will remain in place, in addition to enhanced cleaning and screening measures beginning next Tuesday for modified calendar schools.

Christopher Usih, chief superintendent of schools, said in a statement they will review any additional guidance from Alberta Education before September.

“We all play a role in ensuring that our return to school is as safe as possible,” Mr. Usih said.

“As the school year begins, we will be monitoring the situation closely and following the direction of health authorities to ensure that we are doing everything possible to minimize the spread of COVID-19 in our schools and workplaces.”

The district said it will no longer alert close contacts of positive cases in the classroom as it used to, based on guidance from Dr. Hinshaw.

Edmonton Catholic Schools previously announced it would reinstate masking for its year-round students who began classes Wednesday.

    Its back!

So how long will freedom loving Alberta and Kenney hold off on returning some covid restrictions?

Kenney's grand experiment to ignore covid and hope it goes away has already failed.

All this before fall and a return to school and more indoor gatherings?

It looks like we will have to put up with another wave amongst the unvaccinated and the continued incompetence of Conservative leaders who don't like science or evidence based decisions.

And in the NDP utopia of British Columbia 536 cases:”cbc.ca/news/canada/british-columbia/covid-19-update-aug11-1.6137288”. Chuck2 I am reminded of a lesson I was taught in bible school when I was a kid(not religious but my mother is). A crowd was surrounding a prostitute and was about to stone her. Jesus came along and stopped the crowd and said “He who is without sin can cast the first stone”. A lesson that stuck with me for life!

BC has a covid problem too. But they have not removed all their covid restrictions.

So why do you want to allow another 4th wave to easily take over with no measures at all to reduce the spread?

The 4th wave amongst the unvaccinated will shut down a lot of things again. Is that what you want?

If you are unvaccinated stay at home and let the rest of us enjoy our freedom.

Its time for proof of vacination if you want to go out in public for non essential activities. It will only be a matter of time and it will be required even in Alberta.

                    A couple things here.

                    1. Is anyone surprised at this?

                    2. Could someone do a comparison to the outbreaks of regular flu occurrences in previous years.

Looks like harvest may resume here today
High winds took some canola swaths here yesterday and a neighbor lost a lot of swathed peas
                      Some hail fell here

So will the rising 4th wave stop our vacuous Prime Minister from calling an election?!

I guess the obvious conclusion that others are trying to point out to you is that all your mitigation measures that make you feel warm and safe are doing Sh1t Fock All.

Using statistics from 2018 the death rate from influenza and pneumonia was 19.33 per day for a total of 7,054 for the year.
There were 6 deaths with COVID in Canada yesterday
