Friday Crop Report on a Thursday!

This week sure has taken a turn for the worse in my little corner of the world. We have gone from a little over 3 inches up till June 10 to just under 8 inches in the last week. One other fun thing that happened is I lost 4 quarters to hail at 100% its just stocks and the wheat got hit and knocked seeds out of the head at 30% on 4 quarters as well. A day later we still found hail around buildings yesterday afternoon. It did fill the burrow pit so the water supply for next year is back to spring levels.

So harvest stalled last Thursday when a slow-moving system hit and it rained Friday till Sunday night. Then Monday night a storm hit but the big one was Tuesday afternoon. Two inches of rain and hail made it look like winter.

Were at 15% done harvesting up to this point.

HRS most has been shut down and standing waiting for the weather to change for the harvest to resume or start for wheat. Downgrading will happen because were wet now.
Yields are lower than normal 42% of normal but it depends on the field and showers or snow cover or stubble height or just basically ****ing luck.

Peas are off and anywhere from 20 to 50 across the valley. Most were in the 30 range.

Lentils haven't heard a lot but the stand was nice but yields are down.

Barley is either standing, swath, or off in our area. Swath will have big problems now with sprouting and a thin swath will fall through the stubble. Haven't heard if it made malt ours is all in one big bin. The yield was half of normal but it's off.

Oats some swathing has happened and an odd guy shut them down but I don't know who would buy this. Swath fell through the stubble with the heavy rain so could be really bad.
    Yields will be way down.

Durum yields are down but the price is up so if guys had it harvested before the rain it could be really good.

Canola no one has harvested yet any but the swaths look not bad from the road when you walk in small pods and lots and lots of blanks. We grew Trudeau lots of stock and **** all in it. Most are pod shatter but a good hail storm can take standing and swath it doesn't care. Neighbors are gone as bad as my standing. HAil isn't your friend. Lots of Canola has been shut down already or getting done. Were down to the last half of ours but we have 1200 acres that were seeded after the spring ice storm that is still green or just changing. The yield will be less than half normal for us. Big yields south of the valley will be average at best no bumpers here.

Pastures were done especially the hard grazed but there is some life coming back in some that were not used hard. Could be a great second cut on alfalfa but most don't look like they will attempt or the owners don't want it cut again.

    Some water sloughs are back.

Rain total for the year is just under 8 inches now. I wanted 5 before freeze up and we got to that number. To bad this year's crop is ****ed but 2022 has a chance now even with a dry cold winter. Last year the rain ended in July and we didn't see any till spring 2021.

The best way to describe 2021 is it's ****ed.

Have a safe harvest talk to your neighbors were all in this together and oh **** Trudeau.

Oh I did get out of my pea contract the short fall with a check for $26,000.00. The rest are small and I have the grain to cover I did talk to them on July 3 or 4 th with a phone call and a text and a written letter. I am hearing some real horror results and there might be a class action law suit coming as the contracts they make farmers sign is all for them and zero for the farmer. Worst company to deal with is a Canadian company. But here is my question yes we signed them for delivery options we don’t know how many contracts they have with buyers and how many have been canceled like China does every day with no penalty because in canada farmers are like mushrooms always in the dark and fed shit.

They are fuking themselves who would sign a target or a contract for fall knowing what a shit show the grain companies are creating.

Some are adding fees like what they could of made profit from your grain added to the buyout.

So yea fu k targets and future sales

Make it black. Funny thing some of our best wheat is on tilled ground from last fall.

You are taking the recent weather remarkably well SF.

I am dialing the farm stress line hourly.

Canola plants in some areas of the field are the same size as they were when they were sprayed in June.
No pods, some nice green leaves, amazing how it survived.
It'll likely take off and grow about 2 feet tall before the frost. Get rid of that left over N

            SF,
Saddened to hear of your crop loss. The mental and financial hits keep coming. How many more sleeps until Florida? How widespread was the damage?

Interesting comment since the farm stress line is the the only offer of help for farmers and ranchers so far.

None of the funding is moving to ranchers yet.

Too bad SF, no one needs hail with these prices, that stings. If we could miss Friday/Saturday rain we might get a chance to go - pretty tough. We got 2.4 inches since last Thursday. Thinking Canola might go before Durum. Last fall was too easy.

I’m beyond sick and tired of the word “shortage”.
When is this BS going to stop? Gouging, rapping, screwing, or whatever word you can think of is getting older already. My back isn’t even sore anymore from bending over. Why can’t farmers get together and say NO MORE?? Right we can’t even get along with our neighbours.

I’m wondering come Feb - Mar how short they will be of most commodities? Right that word never gets used when the farmers are holding the Ace of spades.

Fri and Sat are just the first of our problems.

Peas half done. Only inch of rain on Monday. Running better than anticipated.
On to the break even wheat after. More rain coming next week.

Sad part is the only real help is the FarmStress line.

Yea it’s been my worst on the farm. But the rain gives us a chance next year so that’s a positive.

A day later still not all gone

                              Why?

Because your farm representatives are not doing the job they wanted so bad ..now when shit hits the fan they are on their heels wondering what the phuck to do.

For the most part 5th generation farmers at the age of 40 have barely learned how to use their own chequebook.

These guys were on the news last night talking about cell service...that issue aint going to be on the top of the list right now...the only issue is this impact of the drought . Cell service can be put to 2, 3,4 on the list of priorities.
