Evidence; Eastern Canada never used it and canola and pulses were never added to it.

That tells you everything right there.

The mistake in removing the CWB was not extracting the value out of the organization. It should have been converted into a trade arm and ag marketing resource for farmers maybe merged into FCC or something.

It wasnt a great marketer but they had excellent contacts in the world we sell to and those had value which was lost.

Can sit on a couple years grain and when the price jumps can dump it all in a couple days with a phone call or two.
And get a cheque for the FULL amount in minutes to a week.
Now to get rid of the CBC and get some fair balanced reporting out of the other networks!!!
The western producer is down to about 4 pages of interesting unbiased information and I can NOT believe an editor let such pro Liberal drivel be published during an election in w Western Canadian farm paper!!
Do they truly have no idea that their readers/subscribers are 80% right wing CPC even though it seems they have 90% Commie left wing wacko's that dominate the letters to the editor!!!
I recall building a very profitable market in California for organic wheat. One day the well established buyer called to say the CWB had called their company to offer them a lower price for the grain than he paid us. The CWB knew he was the buyer because an export licence could only be provided by the CWB. It has to include the grain. The price. The name of the seller and the name of the buyer. The buyer was outraged.... at the Wheat Board. He called them communists.

That was the day I’d had enough. Pars

Jazz, that tells you nothing right there. The east might as well be on another planet. We sold high protein wheat to a handful of buyers halfway around the world while the east sold medium protein, medium hard( same crap as most of the rest of the world grows) wheat about 200 miles down the road. The Ontario board worked but it could not extract a premium from a picky market like the CWB could so it was about a break even proposition.
Peas and lentils were not 'boardified' for several reasons( trade rules, not enough farmers realizing they could make more money and asking for it, etc.) but if they were we would have an advocate body government would actually listen to and a marketer with power. Canada could have become the lentil mafia.

I read a book the other day. It was a series of interviews in 1954 of German soldiers at Normandy in 44. German interviewer happened to have interviewed same men in Mar 44 for German news and propaganda. Actually great unbiased interviews.
1 man out of the 20 actually got repulsed by realizing later what they were really doing in France at the time. Subjugation.
The others were still okay with their known to be false beliefs of the time. Unification.

I'm trying to understand how some farmers can't see themselves as ridiculous when looking back. How a false set of beliefs could be defended as even believable at the time.
Perhaps the fact that it's the same individuals all the time is evidence of a particular personality rather than intelligence or evidence.
Covid, climate, and now someone dusted off the old 78 on the gramophone.
            Un-freaking-believable.

Wheat prices fell across all major exporting countries since last month’s WASDE with improved
winter wheat conditions in several key production regions. Furthermore, some importers are delaying
purchases awaiting the upcoming harvest in anticipation of lower new crop prices. The biggest reduction
over the past month has been for Russia, where crop prospects have improved and export quotes have
eased amid the current export policies, including the announcement of floating taxes for the new crop
year. Its quotes are currently the most competitive. EU quotes have also eased and remain slightly
above Russia. Argentine quotes have fallen modestly with slowing farmer sales. Australian quotes have
edged somewhat lower with new supplies but remain supported by strong demand from Asian markets.
Quotes from Canada are currently the highest among major suppliers. USDA RELEASE APR 09

WARD WEISENSEL FOR SASK WHEAT - OCTOBER 2020

Only a single seller of the product can price differentiate to extract a greater portion of a
customer’s willingness to pay which was the case for wheat, durum and barley with the
operation of the CWB prior to the regulatory changes enacted in 2012. In that era, many
customers were paying premiums for Canadian wheat and durum relative to what they would
have had to pay for similar quality U.S. spring wheats and durums. That said, many customers
were not willing to pay premiums as the market for high quality spring wheat and durum is
              limited
. As a result, in order to clear the market, a significant volume of grain would be traded at values at a discount to U.S. values as that is what it took to sell the grain that was offered for
sale by farmers to the CWB at the time.

The CWB failed in the end because the majority of the BOD were morons.

They were no good at marketing wheat.
They had oats on the quota system but they didn't market many.
Nobody grew them as you had to store for years for terrible prices.
They ended up with all the shit barley that the feeders didn't want. Shipped half way around the world to shithole countries on some kind of kickback never never payment plan.
The government marketing your grain for you.
                    What could go wrong?
