    Straight cut canola

Been sprayed 18 days , canola is dry finally now . Yesterday’s sun and wind finally brought it down under 10 .
Some guys having issues with green pods and poor threshing . Pockets in fields go above 13-14 moisture, and guys are not threshing the tough pods
Ours was like that 4 -5 days ago . We left it and went to swathed canola . Simply need to wait .
What is interesting is that about an hour after sunset the yield and moisture monitors started going all over the map . Temp dropped a lot and humidity jumped
Combine was still doing a decent job but in areas that were 10-15 bus it was reading 0-5 . Simply moisture build up on sensors. We checked and checked , the combine still doing decent but quit anyway as it got to 70% humidity quick
Moisture reading shot up to 15 , so took sample in this morning, still 10 . More green material in hopper and humidity. Happened quick but really just needed to double check
Was no issue in swathed canola , to be expected I guess .
Anyway, if your straight cutting and having issues in low areas with tough green pods , you may just have to let the sun work now that’s it’s out .
A few days made a huge difference.
The lite burnt out areas are higher moisture than the low heavy areas now . Simply the good areas have matured out now .
5 in burnt out areas, 35-40 plus in low areas
Sad thing is , low areas are only 10-20% of each field but interesting how well the canola actually did with subsoil moisture after 35 days of plus 30 c heat .
Story much the same all over here .
All our standing canola now well under 1% green

I'm still struggling with the risk/reward of leaving canola stand.
This year went half and half.
A lot left standing this year in area.
      I'm still sceptical.

Very few issues with straight cutting this year. Testing 6-8% moisture, not too hot going into the bin. One of the better yrs for straight cutting that I can remember.

Neighbour's swaths blew some this year, but they have it in the bin. Waiting patiently on heat and rup, wondering if the heat speeds anything up except the depletion of my pocket book.

Standing 20% , swathed 7% yesterday. Not even close, no standing combined, 30% of swathed gone.

Huge diff in swaths, some stay put, some uneven, blown around, rolled too little? We got it right this year. 10-12" stubble helps. 7565 not a short variety.

Ya it was a gamble either way this year .
Here light swaths are blown in spots and every ridge is blown apart every second swath . Not much fun blowing circles with 16 ft pickups trying to pick that stuff up. Every extra hour on the combines costs money .
Here there was less than 6 in stubble left in most fields . 10-12 inches would be enough to hold for the most part .

Water volume helps , but still takes time . Hard to be patient for sure .
Stuff swathed to early is light weight and shriveled , this straight cut is nice and black with actually big seeds .
It’s a tool to use but not for every acre for sure in some areas .

Guys that used liberty on RR that used less than 10 gal and under 60psi are fighting green plays yet

Coverage and penetration help a lot
I did some round up and heat at 5.4 gal and some at 7.5 ... you can see the difference.
All liberty was at 12 gal with 65 psi and only 12 mph , worked very well actually.

Just hope none of us get any more adverse weather or 80k winds before the canola off . Don’t need more grief after a very tough year already
Good luck , hope for the best these next 10 days

We did the same , 1/2 and 1/2
Swathed stuff cured out and dry as usual, the standing just takes a little longer.
Luckily we are able to still go on swathed fields and straight cut when the others are ready .
Every year has its challenges, this year is testing everyone’s patience for sure .

No more tough storage, gotta wait it out. Thankfully weather looks good for the week ahead. Big seeds, black seeds, shrivelled ones too. Slow and steady will win the race. 🐢
