Yeah Liberal lite Ohtool is going to fix the weather forecasting and put on a carbon tax. He might even make it rain!

Well at least maybe he could fix the radar back to way it was last years.

Chuck chuck so is your check from Trudeau in the mail or is he keeping it as your donation to the liberal party.

                Your not that bright.

I bet I scored higher than you did.

Edmonton did not "lose" radar. It was a scheduled decommissioning of Carvel radar and to replace it with an entirely new system. The construction and installation will take until December. Here are a few details from an Enviornment Canada spokesperson that were released in August:

Carvel's station was scheduled for decommissioning and replacement starting in late August.

The old station's Doppler radar — useful for forecasting summer storms "that are rotating," Pederson said — had a range of 120 kilometres.

The new Carvel station, like the others across Canada, will have a Doppler radar range of 240 kilometres.

While the new station is being constructed, the old Carvel station will be offline. But it will be possible to turn it on again until Sept. 23 in the event of severe weather, Pederson said.

"After that period, though, it will be totally dysfunctional and not able to be turned back on."

The new weather radar at Carvel, Alta., a hamlet located 55 kilometres west of the city, should be up and running by December, Environment Canada meteorologist Alysa Pederson told CBC News on Monday.

To leave the Edmonton region without any radar coverage for 6 months is not safe nor acceptable for the 2 million people they have left with no advance warning for extreme weather.

Environment Canada should have provided service without interruption, only Ottawa mindless clueless minions would risk our lives [out here in the 'backwaters' of Alberta] without consideration for loss of life and property. They had an obligation to provide a minimum level of service for the billions of $ of economic and millions of people and international aircraft/airport put at unnecessary risk. Aftter the 100's of billions $ transferred to the rest of Canada... this is a kick in the head.

                      Cheers

Ummmm I’m with you Tom that this is crazy. I’d kinda like to track the storms but haven’t been able too. The Carvel station is only a mile from my in-laws and provides our coverage as well. You’d think they could rig up the new system and still leave the old one running? Good thing the government isn’t in charge of maintenance on a farm. They’d pull the baler down for a scheduled rebuild in the middle of July…………….

This is totally unacceptable and frustrating.

First opinions are usually closest to the correct long term conclusions. Saskfarmer may not be as good a businessman; judge, fact provider or BS'er as he considers himself. Oh...and ignore that last "like" too

Cross posting the same message indicates a shortage of thoughts...eh smart Saskfarmer.

My patience is diminishing with such continuous attacks. That shit can be thrown by more than mega BS'ers.

Little dramatic there Tom. First September 23 to December 6 is not 6 months (the time when Carvel cannot provide any service). (math is hard for some I guess) Second, Edmonton region has not been left without any coverage as you claim (Strathmore, Spirit River, and Radisson radars have all had range extended to 400 kms providing basic radar service to Edmonton area. Third, all 31 enviornment Canada weather radar sites are getting upgraded. Edmonton is the 21 station to get the upgrade with doubles the current range of coverage providing even better service to rural areas outside Edmonton. Funny you are not complaining about rural Alberta being so far down the list. Fourth, these major upgrades are done in the fall when the risk of extreme weather is the lowest during the construction period when new towers have to be built. And you really believe that the Edmonton airport is at risk of this and they have no additional storm detection. Every modern commercial aircraft will have short range weather radar. The only kick in the head is what you are doing in complaining about something you did not even know was happening. Maybe next time check enviornment Canada radar outage before spouting off.
