Alfalfa has come back good in pastures maybe a little too good. Neighbor stopped in to say he had some bloating with cows. I guess the plants are full of nice green leaves and high moisture are a delight to cows who lived on grass roots and grasshoppers for most of the summer. BE on the watch guys.

Was hauling bales thinking letting cows into some hay land this fall.Alfalfa looks dangerous.Would have to feed them some horse hay then turn them in for a few hours then put them back the next day.A big thing is if cows have other options to eat and not just the lush alfalfa

Like grazing alfalfa as long as it has a fair bit of bloom and thete is grass mixed in as cows prefer grass.
Can be real scary when it gets dry for the third pass as grass gives up and just the deep rooted alfalfa gets lush but hasn't bloomed yet.
Only remember bloating one cow and it was on a big field with new growth down on the far end where they hadn't been for a while.
I do remember a guy getting a cat in to dig a big hole to bury a bunch that went through the fence into a red clover field. Bloat storm.
