Saskatchewan has once again broken a record in the pandemic.

The province reported 449 new COVID-19 cases on Monday. That is the highest new case count ever in the province, breaking the previous record of 441 set on Nov. 20, 2020.

According to a tweet sent out by the province Monday afternoon, of the 449 new cases, 86 per cent are unvaccinated, three per cent are partially vaccinated and 11 per cent are fully vaccinated.

Over one-third of the newest cases are 19 years of age or younger.

The province reported four more deaths due to the coronavirus on Monday. There have been a total of 625 deaths in Saskatchewan.

The province now has the highest seven-day rolling case average in Canada, with 31.3 new cases per 100,000 people.

Saskatchewan also surpassed 200 COVID-19 patients in hospital on Monday, with 209. Forty-one of those patients are in ICUs. Now, the health system is under strain, according to the province.

Saskatchewan plans to increase ICU beds as COVID cases climb

The Government of Saskatchewan is once again taking extraordinary measures to deploy healthcare workers. Late Monday afternoon the province announced a new emergency order to allow more flexibility in scheduling when it comes to capacity pressures.

The Saskatchewan Health Authority and health sector unions did have a letter of understanding that allowed for labour mobility, but it expired when restrictions were lifted.

A statement from the ministry of health says the order is necessary given "the urgent and immediate needs of the healthcare system."

Meanwhile, there are currently 3,776 active cases in Sask. On Monday 414 new recoveries were recorded.

The new cases are located as follows:

    Far northwest: 40.

    Far northeast: 19.

    Northwest: 102.

    North central: 43.

    Northeast: 38.

    Saskatoon: 105.

    Central west: six.

    Central east: nine.

    Regina: 13.

    Southwest: 11.

    South central: nine.

    Southeast: 11.

Forty-three new cases have pending residence information.

There were 655 new first doses and 839 new second doses reported Monday, according to the province's dashboard.

Saskatchewan plans to increase ICU beds as COVID cases climb

Health authority hopes to make 130 ICU beds available in the province

The Saskatchewan Health Authority (SHA) is preparing to treat a larger number of seriously ill COVID-19 patients in the province.

"The more transmissible delta variant has resulted in increasing pressures on Saskatchewan hospitals at a much faster rate than previous COVID surges, drastically increasing ICU occupancy and hospitalizations due to COVID in the last month," the SHA said in a news release.

In the days and weeks ahead, the SHA has set a target to increase the number of available intensive-care unit beds in the province to 130, up from 79. The expectation is that COVID-19 patients may soon be using 80 of those beds, with 50 beds remaining to care for other critical patients.

The SHA is also working to increase hospital capacity outside the province's ICUs so that an additional 255 COVID patients could be treated at any given time.

And while the health authority works to increase its capacity to care for COVID-positive patients, it is temporarily scaling back non-critical and elective services.

So what the hell is wrong with Moe and the Saskparty? They have been told again by most of the healthcare experts they need further measures to reduce covid cases.

Do they not think it would be a better use of resources to put in some measures to increase vaccinations and reduce the spread of covid instead of increasing ICU beds and hospitalizations?

Why are they so hell bent on choosing the the path of allowing an exponential increase in the number of covid cases just to pander to a relatively small number of antivaxers who seem to care less about what happens to other sick people needing treatment or the healthcare system?

Doug Ford and the Conservatives in Manitoba are doing a lot more. Why are these fools so stubborn?

ENOUGH with the Covid -19 related news please !!! We are getting this info on the radio , tv ,every day , day in , day out. People ( including myself more often) are getting very upset with the way this Ag related site is going , and sorry to say bud , but you are NOT helping at all. Just my 2 cents .

It's time we dialed down the politics a bit too , and I am as guilty as anyone on here for giving my opinions , but if anyone thinks Trudeau is a good Prime Minister , I'd hate to see what a really bad one is .

          Fire away.....

Mad Maxi. Its a largely a preventable disease with a couple of needles.

Do you need somebody to hold your hand? And then you will be free. Is that too difficult?

Most of the Agrsilly posters seem to have had their vaccines for various reasons. It's only a few diehard conspiracy theorists and flat earthers who are vying for the darwin award.

We are not discussing Trudeau. We are discussing Moe's incompetence and neglect on the covid file.

So if one of your relatives or you end up needing healthcare and you don't get it because the system is overwhelmed and not functioning well, are you going to be happy with Moe's state of covid neglect? Its a matter of life and death in some cases.

It is not the governments fault for hospitals filling up.It is all on the unvaccinated that are 12 or older that is causing the problem. Many people give blood or an organ to help out others in a medical situation.and some will not even take a jab cause they googled it and a guy popped up and said he was an expert and the jab was dangerous.Ok fine do not get vaccinated but if you get sick why would you expect the health system to get you better? After all you think they are out to get you.As far as health care workers needing to be vaccinated I say good.I would never hire a vegetarian to promote my beef.
