COVID-19 in Sask.: new cases exceed 500, with 20% in kids 0-11 years old

Saskatchewan's COVID-19 case numbers continue to climb.

After breaking the record for most daily cases throughout the entire pandemic only one day ago, the province reported a new single-day record of 506 new cases Tuesday.

Saskatchewan initially reported 449 new cases on Monday, but is now reporting 451 for that day.

Furthermore, 101 (nearly 20 per cent) of Tuesday's 506 new cases are in the zero to 11 age category. That age group is not yet eligible for vaccination against COVID-19.

Saskatchewan is also swiftly approaching the 4,000 known active cases mark, with 3,929 on Tuesday.

Hospitalizations also continue to increase. There are now a total of 225 residents hospitalized due to the virus, up 16 from Monday. That includes 43 patients in ICUs, according to the province's online COVID-19 dashboard.

The province says nearly 76 per cent of people hospitalized with COVID-19 are not fully vaccinated.

It also says that two Saskatchewan residents 11 years of age or younger are in hospital. Neither of these children are in an ICU.

The province also reported two more deaths due to the coronavirus on Tuesday. There have been a total of 627 deaths in Saskatchewan.

Premier Moe says no new restrictions yet

In a statement released Tuesday afternoon, Premier Scott Moe said the Government of Saskatchewan is concerned by the significant pressures on the province's health system created by increasing COVID-19 case rates.

But no new restrictions are being implemented as of Tuesday afternoon.

"These case rates and the subsequent severe outcomes continue to be driven by those who have made the choice not to get vaccinated," Moe said in the statement.

"As we have previously stated, enacting additional measures has not been ruled out."

On Monday afternoon, the province announced a new emergency order to allow more flexibility in scheduling of health-care workers when it comes to capacity pressures.

It won't be long untill the exponential growth of covid cases in the unvaccinated puts our healthcare system in a severe crisis and shuts down schools and a lot of other services.

We are about to experience a healthcare crisis worse than what we experienced in previous waves.

Moe and company are hanging on to the insane idea that government shouldn't impose vaccine mandates and incentives to get the rest of the unvaccinated to roll up their sleeves for the cheapest easiest way to blunt this pandemic.

Moe seems to think spending more on healthcare after the horse leaves the barn is better than closing the barn door and saving taxpayers a lot of money. What happened to his fiscal conservative ideals?

Nobody wants more lockdowns, closures and restrictions, but the alternative is worse. Which is over run hospitals and a healthcare system that will struggle to provide basic services to non covid and covid patients.

Moe and the Saskparty are going to be responsible for more preventable deaths and a lot of delayed and inadequate healthcare because of wrong headed ideology and incompetence.

That is not the legacy they should want.

I was quite surprised by my canola yields this year. Not good but all things considered ok. Thinking about splitting acres between 340PC and 345PC. Both yielded roughly the same. Anybody else have a clear winner between the two?

Haven't taken any off yet.

What I do hear is a lot of difference in pod shatter. Definitely not all the same. Some a late swathing variety only.

Grew mostly 255 and some 340. Both ok. No real winner yield wise but the 255 stands better for straight cut and won’t change until I try something different. Usually new ones are only a quarter just to test the waters. Grew a lot of 341 last year and it was a nightmare to cut. Had to put in flex mode to get it all. 345 last year wasn’t much better so we avoided those 2 this year. Suppose to be a couple new ones coming for next year so might try one of them.

I'm on the other end of that, I want a canola that falls down tangles up and makes a mat so thick that none can shatter, and is somewhat insulated from frost. I just dread having a standing upright almost ripe crop waiting for a wind, even with pod shatter varieties.

I want the old varieties back that fell over, didn't even need pod shatter traits then, instead they keep bragging about the standability.
