    Meridian Straight Auger

We have a 10"x59" Meridian auger , 2 years old ,with super edge flighting
what a horrible auger , absolutely hate it
this flighting throws grain straight up in the air
can't keep it in the tub , Meridian says its all in my head
also 70% of tube sticks out in front , its like driving a wrecking ball through the yard, what an engineering ****-up
advertising works , obviously , sure wished we had bought another Wheatheart

I thought it was just me with the grain throwing. Pisses me off. No other auger has ever done that.

      Thanks for the warning.
But what purpose do you have for a 59' straight auger?
I have a 51' and find it is way too long for truck loading. Far prefer the 40'.

Seems to me a neighbour had an auger like that and had to run at less than full speed. Can’t remember how much slower but give it a try.

          brother had to have it
wanted to be able to use it once in a while to put seed in a 5000 bu bin without swing away

            that works , but....
we bought a 10" for speed , not to slow down
            old 8x 51 sakundiak doesn't do it , 10x 41" wheat heart doesn't
gotta be this stupid super edge flighting

We always put wood blocks underneath the hoppers to keep the auger hopper as close to the slide as possible. Run it right full and no chance of a mess if something happens.

My guess is 59’ can’t run full out.

We do the same though with our short augers. Block it up and run full bore.

Some brands have double flighting at the intake for that reason I think

Once the grain starts dancing at the intake you have to slow it down because it’s backfeeding at that higher speed. Probably the crap flighting not letting enough grain in the tube because of it being closer together. Have an old wore out 7” sakundiak which augers smoother and not a lot slower than my newer 8” wheatheart which is loud enough. With both I’ve found there is a sweet spot to run them which isn’t necessarily wide open which pumps the most grain. Trucker showed me this years ago.

Well, that makes me quite relieved that I didn't buy a 10 - 53 Meridian I was looking at a few weeks ago. It was like new and priced right, but not likely long enough to reach into my 6-27' dryer bin.

Decided for all I need one, I would rent my neighbour's 10-61 Westfield swing for filling it. I can pay him well and still be ahead.

Used it once already and couldn't believe the difference between it and my old 8" Westfield.
