Yes thank you Saskfarmer. We finished on Tuesday. My son and I are helping the neighbour down the road as his father is getting tests done in advance of shoulder surgery. It is certainly a good feeling to be done in September. Many jobs to do of course before winter..

Canola ended up averaging a little over 40 bushels to the acre. Pioneer 506 was highest yielding, then 255 and 340 was the lowest but also on the poorest land. 340 is easier to thresh than 255 but 506 was the nicest to thrash.

      Good job SF😎
Still at 15% done here after crazy wind, lightning, and torrential rain last night that wasn’t in the forecast. The neighbours had some second cut raked but now it’s blown into the trees. The weather radar sure would be nice but it was showing nothing like usual.

We’re in the blank spot west of Edmonton. At least there wasn’t hail but it wouldn’t have surprised me since further west they got some.

This quarter had manure spread and worked in last fall. The second growth made a mess of it but at least it is off, dried and ready to become calf moo poo this winter.

The cows and grass have been loving all this late rain. Never dreamed we’d still be grazing yet. The hills are greener than they’ve been so far this year. Got enough moisture to blast in a bunch of fall rye at the last moment for next springs grazing hopefully. Kinda nice if it turns out to be able to kick the cows out sometimes a month earlier than regular grass

Starting to bring the cows slowly home and clean off the fields along the way. Always a nice feeling to shut down a water system, pick up the mineral tubs and know that you’re done with that field till next year.

The bow hunters have already taken some elk out of our corn which is nice since there is way too many of them destructive pests around here. Hopefully when rifle season opens they can really thin the queen’s herd out.

Congrats to everyone that’s done. Still lots of acres to cover, bales to pick, moo poo to spread, critters to vaccinate, and landscaping to be done here. Hopefully the sun sticks around for a while🍀

I agree with you 100 percent! I am to the point where Thursday is the only day worth checking this site. Thanks Saskfarmer! Galaxie500 nice ride!!! You can take a drive some afternoon and forget about everything for a period of time. That’s what I do in my Mustang.

                Beauty time of year 👍

Agree with posters on this thread , S/F crop report is one of few things worth while free anymore.
I ignore most other threads now .
Good to see Errols insight now and then , and anyone else who sticks to ag related topics
You can tell who has farming in the blood on this site .

We were the recipients of a hail pounding Wednesday night. My canola still has green growth. That's still intact, the valuable ripe seeds are now on the ground. Contract fulfilment will be the next challenge this fall.

Maybe some other people are more zen or have more people in the business to share the load, but for me farming is totally a stressful exercise.

I am gungho in the spring, semi excited by harvest and then eventually just want it off and in the bin and dont want to see it for 6 months.

Yesterday, wrapped up the low spots left earlier in Sept.
It's been a while since we've finished in a more traditional time on the calendar, good feeling.
Now allllllll those other jobs !

Hate combining in Nov,,, we'll never grow sunflowers, ever. Same for flax.

300 acres of standing canola remaining. Hopefully finish today. This field is yielding less then half of usual, but it missed all the July rains.
Our other canola yielded surprisingly awesome, not too far off last few years.

You’re welcome! I do like talking about vintage cars from the 60’s and early 70’s. I know that you had a 68 Galaxie XL from a previous post. I bet you would sure like to add that Fairlane Cobra to your collection! My wife is very understanding about my passion about muscle cars. Dad bought a new 70 Galaxie XL with a 429 4barrel which is still in the family. I know I am off topic but it sure beats the covid talk!

My BIL had a Torino cobra with that massive 429 with those huge valve covers and the shaker scoop and 4 speed.
Didn't stay around long after he got married and had the first kid.
Hard car to keep tuned for road trips with stiff gears and solid lifters.
Orange and black beauty worth big bucks today.
