Friday Crop Report on a Thursday!

Well, another hot and dry week and wind lots of wind.

Funny the 5 inches in August have soaked in and the small top layer is bone dry again. The grass is starting to go from green to funny color again. Ah, also it's fall but yea a good soaker for all would sure be welcome already, either in very wet snow or a two-day rain snow sleet event.

Any way the Crop report.

Harvest in our area is 98% done with just a few fields here or there that need to come off. Most is Canola that was sprayed and guys are waiting for it to cure. We have our usual farm that we go north to harvest and starting tomorrow will get it done.

We did yields a week ago it is basically half the crop for us of what's normal. I will say every area that a guy worked the fall before and cleaned up sloughs etc produced stupid this year and that did help push up some yields. Yes 15 years of excess rain, you have lots of areas to clean up.

Sprayed some new land that I was never on and it was sprayed almost end to end. A good fire and protill and it's ready for 2022.

In our area, lots of fall work is being done. Lots every one has either heavy harrowed or pro till or kelly or disced land.

Guys are even out stone picking.

But when you live in an area that is usually wet and snowy and cold and don't finish harvesting till 5 min before freeze-up it's a breath of fresh air to have such a nice fall.

Grain companies are getting out of control and need some rules put in place. From contracts to the newest thing if you don't buy seed from us you cant buy liberty or Roundup in 2022. Free market my ass.

The group I blame is every grain board that is out in western Canada. Sitting at a meeting getting a check isn't looking out for farmers. None on these boards understand what's happening to us farmers even if they farm, it's a slow train wreck thanks to no action.

Where is Trudeau that ****up is he stoned or gone A wall? Or just gone.

Moose hunting season starts tomorrow so anyone who has a tag gets permission to hunt, please.

Lock in a profit but if you can't grow it well **** you up real good. Thanks but no thanks.

Even the mighty crop reporter from the West Side of Sask came out and said he won't be able to cover his contracts and has to buy out. Gee, he was so upbeat before.

Welcome to farming it isn't easy if it was every company would do it.

I got up this morning and Thanked my parents ( miss you Mom and Dad ) grandparents , and great grandparents for giving me the opportunity to be here , to feed people , and hopefully make a difference in this world.

The land I am standing on was paid for by hard working European ,and English immigrants who came to this country knowing their " lot in life " wasn't going to be paid for , and we are better for it .

My post has no real purpose other than the fact that I don't take my farming/ranching career choice lightly. If it wasn't for my parents help I wouldn't be here doing this. Although 35+ years of sweat equity on my part didn't hurt either. Other guys/gals on here have the same stories to tell .

Sure hope this year is a turning point for getting out of the dry cycle we've been going through down here. It is great fall weather , but a foot and a half of wet snow would be great. Rain/sleet , anything wet !

Those older deeres would stay so clean...no buildup around the motor.

Why can't engineers recognize these things????

Most of our families came here with very little but a very hard work ethic and a will to succeed for generations.

Unfortunately, galaxie, the rest of the world takes our profession lightly. In fact its entirely ignored and even demonized. Next it will be attacked by ESG idiots.

Wait until real food inflation hits and the farmers get blamed.

That old Deere just finally has 4000 hrs this fall I bought it new then got into a fight when we were trading one year and told the dealer order a new one and It’s cash I’m keeping the trade. He said what? I said I’m keeping the trade and it’s still around today it’s our pull tractor if we get stuck 9520.

Those older deeres would stay so clean...no buildup around the motor.

Like Galaxie, I’m also extremely blessed to have had forefathers that worked very hard, were fiscally responsible, and left a legacy of well cared for land. I was very fortunate to have harvested crops this fall that were only 10-15% under average, but with current prices, I’ll do very well.
I hope that the cattlemen will be able to source feed and water for their animals, that farmers hit far harder by heat and drought than myself can find a way to put in the next crop, and that between vaccination and infection, we can finally reach herd immunity so we can put all this Covid crap behind us.

We kept our first case for the same reason
A 1992 9270 , got over 11,000 hrs on er now and still runs very well . Those older deers and cases are irreplaceable now
