Who said I owned it all?

If you must know, I own 1/3 of the land, may parents own 1/3 of the land and I now rent that off of them, and I rent 1/3 of the land from outside of the family.

Did I get help from dad as a co-signer on my first loan? Yes

Did I get much other help from him? No other than using some of his equipment when I first started. But I would like to think that I returned that favour by letting him use some of mine in his final years of farming instead of updating his own.

I could have the newest equipment, and a fancy house, and the debt that comes along with it. But I chose to get ahead first, then reap the rewards afterwards.

Just which government help did my generation get again? This is a 3rd generation farm, where the first generation passed in his early 40’s with a mountain of debt.
You need to get out and take a drive and see what some other
People have faced for 4 out of rhe last 5 years and
Maybe you wouldn’t be such an inconsiderate prick.
I used to be arrogant like you when we had good weather
It doesn’t matter what anyone has done rhe last 4 years
Crops all the same yield drought ridden
People don’t have water for their homes never mind
      Livestock.
Our premiums are subsidizing areas that have had
Good weather we’re stuck with shit coverage high
Premium but have to continue take it. But
      Almost doesn’t make sense.
Premiums should not vary that much and neither
Should coverage when you experience drought or
Flood or frost etc beyond your control.
But our government uses these formulas just to lower
Paying what they should. The sask party promised
      Rhe grip program? Still waiting?

If you can live off crop insurance you are very fortunate. I hate debt to but it’s inevitable in this business especially after this year. I’m about the same age as you, have had some poor crops but this is the first year I will b in a crop insurance claim position. But our coverage levels are a complete joke in relation to what it costs to seed a crop. Thankfully I work off farm all winter so kids will have something to eat.

Never seen him that that way on here. Good management blessed with weather should be admired.

Ever thought you shouldn’t be doing what you are doing, where you are doing it?

It isn’t the governments job to keep you solvent.

Oh boy when it hits you and your area and it will
Come talk to me. This is one of the best producing
Areas in the province prior to this weather
Pattern. Weather patterns change. You’d be laughed
Out of your chair if you saw the area and
              Suggested we not farm.
Not suggesting something for nothing but
These formulas are not working for the changes
              In weather patterns that happen.

You sure have memorized all the provincial mla and
Mp slogans oh it’s your spending oh maybe do something
Else. Next we ll see fcc and other lenders taking land and
Giving to who? Investors who don’t farm or farmers
From other areas who will bring their area coverages
And collect or should some area just be left unseeded?
Lmao? You have lots to learn about respect for
The land and your fellow farmer. If you don’t you’ll
Likely end up being apas rep and then the minister. Lol

There’s a lot in there what rent are you paying family for one.

That’s a pretty cozy situation but no use explaining it all
Because that takes more than days to actually do.

I’m not saying to live off of crop insurance at all. But it isn’t up to anybody else to be your farms crutch.

Every area has had a write off or two, some poor crops, and some excellent ones as well. Save 20-30% on the excellent years, and keep it to pull you through a write off. If it takes 5-10 years for a write off to rear it’s ugly head, even better!

See my saving in the good years, to help out in the poor ones response above. But with a name like “big wheel” I can put two and two together!😉

And then you ask the government for training wheels?

I didn’t say not to farm it….but if that is what suits you!! Maybe different crops during an extended drought? Maybe throw some animals into the mix? Maybe…the options are endless.

But no…it is the governments fault they don’t give you more money. Self-reliance doesn’t mean anything anymore.

Now if you would argue that every other industry basically got a handout, and ag didn’t, then you would have some legs to stand on. Ag kinda got thrown to the wayside, while everyone else got free everything.
