The stated purpose is preventing severe illness and death not necessarily infection especially with the delta variant. No vaccine is 100 effective at preventing infection. The rates of severe illness have not increased for the vaccinated but with more people especially unvaxed becoming ill numbers rise. You can pop pooh the vaccines all you want but we are all better off with the vaccines
