    A question to ranchers.

    Livestock

Canadian-owned female beef and dairy cattle, bison, elk, sheep or goats bred or intended to be bred.
This initiative will cover 70 per cent of extraordinary cost per head.
    Animal unit equivalents:
Species Animal Unit Equivalent Extraordinary Expense per head
    Beef, Dairy, Bison 1.0 $285

    Example: $285 x 70% X 1.0 = $200

Is this what your representatives agreed to?

So you have to spend 285 bucks to get back 200? Seems to me that ranchers would be short the 85 bucks per head?

Unless I am wrong and I probably am, who agrees to a funding formula like that?

Seems guys will end up digging a deeper hole for themselves.

Looks like the right thing to do is sell the cows?

    This will break our economy!
Are all these ranchers driving dodge trucks
I bet???? Then whining about a drought
They could have avoided and planned for.
Where the hell is mommy and daddy in all this?

oh shit , big wheel, I know where this is going!!!

Sadly mom and dad have no yutes that want to have cattle so they are doing the work and they are to the point of saying "phuck it". The Yutes left long ago for a Macdonalds job that pays better serving a quarter pounder than growing the beef for it.

There is no money in it. Governments are more than happy to help the middleman before the rancher.

This hand out proves they are not interested in helping the rancher. The grocer will be OK by charging a dollar more for hamburger. The packers are making out OK. And beef is always available from somewhere in the world. Maybe not to the higher standards of Canadian beef but who cares? Right?

So what your telling me if I understand this
Correctly if help was given to the producer
As inSUBSIDY it would help everyone in
The long run??? Better food better price save
        A local industry?
I find that hard to believe.

What about the dodge trucks what impact
Does that have? I drive a chev by the way.

I don't what I am saying some days. But if you don't help the farmer and ranchers , it seems the rest of the value chain will eventually be broken. AND the best money spent is to the primary producer because the money flows quickly through the economy.

Grocers profits end up in Panama, Packers profits sit idle for the next downturn where they ask for help and get it to keep the account topped up.

The money needed for ranchers is far less than what the Westons stole from the consumers with their bread price fixing for a decade.

Most people never blinked an eye for higher bread prices even though the price of grain had dropped in half , and the original excuse was wheat prices had gone up.

Off topic. I was reading the comments about help for ranchers because of the drought. One guy said let them fail because he was a vegan...So stupid... lentil prices have doubled and there wasn't much of a crop . Makes you wonder.

the first 100 dollar payment is on the numbers you have.to get the second 100 dollar payment you need to spend 285 per cow.At least that is how I understand it.time will tell if cost of damage to grassland land because of over grazing will be included.

Good point, so the equation isn't right either.

              $285 x .351 x 1 = $100 of federal funding

Once again the acknowledgement of this disaster is dollars short and months late. so stupid.

Rancher next door who has zero water is hauling from
                river 25 approx miles away
No water in well and did search and didn’t not
Find water lower. So wants to haul by tanker
And fill pits up was told nothing for hauling
But you could trench and get half or
He could use the 200 dollars per animal so
would that be included in the 285? He then
Has to chose between water or bales has already sold
                1/3 of herd to USA.

Buying expenses and selling the revenue generating part of the ranch. Governments in Canada are so stupid.

In a years time there won't be much left of the cattle industry by the looks of it.

Yup I drive a Dodge truck, a 2002 diesel with over 440000 km on it, it is a beaut!
I was fortunate to have some carry over, certainly helped. I know one guy down the road has a 2 year supply of hay.
Not planning to apply for the $200 per head.
My Dad passed 8 years ago but Mom is still going strong, quite a character actually.
Answer your questions Big Wheel? You have quite a chip on your shoulder!

Say what you will Big Wheel, your reaction to Flea Beetle’s posts is a little over the top. While I agree there is no way a farmer can be prepared for a 4-5 year drought and maybe his posts came across to you as insensitive it didn’t in my opinion justify your insults. And by the way my daily driver is a 2008 GMC gas job, the dodge pulls the cattle trailer, breaks down too often to be a daily driver lol.

That’s fine hamloc I was offended not
Only for myself but for neighbours we ve lost
And the ones that are through no fault of
Their own not gonna make it financially through
This. And these are people multi generation farms
No new equipment no big purchases no holiday
Types that really are rhe backbone of our community.
We ve got a few outsiders moved in and it isn’t
Good already spraying other people s fields
Bidding up rents because they carry their better
Crop insurance from the good area they farm when if
The former neighbours would have had that coverage
They’d still be here. It’s not just drought we ve had
Hail etc. The drought here is unreal.
Would that not piss you off? It does me.
                          Again have a great day.
My Chevy would outpull any tin can dodge 24/7.
                          Lmao!

Governments love seeing these discussions here and in public.

Their job of doing nothing becomes so much easier for the demise of an industry.

I hope for everyone's sake they never have a wreck and wonder what to do....there will be no one left to speak on your behalf.

I am amazed at younger guys wanting more land at high prices from guys that bought at low prices and still had problems over the years.

I seen this before and guys only stayed in business with a giant write down.

A guy buys at 40k a quarter and yet it makes even more sense for a young guy to buy him out at 300k a quarter.

Pastures at 200k for an industry on its knees.

                            It's puzzling.

second payment on numbers as of December 31st.water hauling is an expense.Program has been wishy washy from the beginning.Think they made rules and farmers picked hokes in them so they keep adjusting rules.
