The difference being we do not have proportional representation in Canada. The Liberals won the most seats compared to any other party so they formed the government. Period. By Kenney's own admission, the equalization was only to gauge the position of Albertan's on equalization and to use as a bargaining chip in future negotiations. He did not get overwhelming endorsement of ending equalization by Albertans. And the question did not generate enough interest to significantly increase election turnout. Compare the estimated 1/3 turnout on this referendum to the 95.5% turnout on the Quebec referendum vote in 95 and you might understand why Kenney will be the laughing stock if he tries to negotiate on the basis of Albertan's support based on the UPC referendum.

Trudeaus mandate is only 15% of the population and not even the popular vote including an entire province that shunned him.

I would say Kenny has much better support than that.

Are you some how hoping to add Sask residents to Kenney support numbers of 22% JAZZ?

Referendum support - not popular support. Kennys will begin to rise again now that AB has shown some fight he can get behind. He has no choice now.

Alberta has paid for every hydro dam, every child day care program and every EI scam in this country. $600B worth. Time to cut off the dead beats.

Maybe lefty Manitoba might want to take a look, or do you need a hydro dam bail out first?

If the feds ignore it, next vote will be for separation within 3 yrs.

I'd say our Manitoba Hydro is positioned very well with the demand and sales to USA and our dependent neighbor of SASK.

How's those 65 year hydro poles holding up Jazz? In wet years are you able to have more than one aeration fan running at a time?

Why is MB debt to gdp sitting at 100% and why are you are still taking a billion in equalization per year? That doesnt sound well positioned to me.

It takes an entire month of hydro sales to the US from all of Canada to equal one day of oil and gas revenues. Not even in the same league.

There your mandate. Public opinion now aligned. Sounds like some antivaxxer logic being used on the anti wealth crowd.

Jazz, how come you did not include the first paragraph in that national post story which reads:

Nearly two-thirds of Canadians believe aspects of the equalization system are unfair to Alberta, according to a new poll from Maru Public Opinion, however, a majority of Canadians also believe equalization treats every province fairly overall.

Or other findings of the survey including:

Yet, 60 per cent countrywide — ranging from 62 per cent in Alberta to 76 per cent in Quebec, Ontario and B.C. — believe the system treats all provinces fairly.

Lots of contradictory results are mentioned in the story if you actually read it. https://nationalpost.com/news/politics/majority-of-canadians-believe-equalization-is-unfair-to-alberta-poll#:~:text=Nearly%20two-thirds%20of%20Canadians%20believe%20aspects%20of%2 0the,also%20believe%20equalization%20treats%20ever y%20province%20fairly%20overall.
