When the system works the way it is supposed to, you can stop by the office after dumping your last load and get a cheque right away. This would be from the larger grain companies. However because of the new system Cargill is having issues printing a cheque within a month. I asked for a grain cheque to be split with a landlord and was told it would add another two weeks.

Smaller specialty grain buyers, you can expect 7 to 21 days delay.

End of Sept, after I dumped, I shut my truck off in the driveway and after I got the weight ticket I went in the office. Told them them the truck was staying parked there on the scale till I had my money for loads delivered earlier in the week. I phoned my wife while in the office. She was ready to come get me. Area manager girl was there that day too. As we argued she set me up for direct deposit because they couldn’t print cheques there because of the new computer system. They were all out of their offices standing there trying to explain the 2-3 weeks to get paid and that they were driving to Yorkton to get cheques but I wasn’t going for it.

Trucks were pulling up to the probe and I had their main driveway blocked and they had to use the other lane for them to dump.

I had the grain buyer girl on the phone at the same time and she was working with Winnipeg to get a cheque printed that day for me in Yorkton. I had bills that had to be paid and I needed the money. No exceptions.

They are lucky it was a quiet Friday. It was about an hour that my truck blocked the scale before they told me a cheque would print in Yorkton. I drove to Yorkton and had a cheque in hand by 5pm. On Tuesday I picked up a cheque for all the other loads.

Last two weeks it’s been direct deposit in 2-3 days.
post of the year , right here!!!!!!!!

this is what shoulda been done when they were tearing out rail lines /infrastructure/etc.

Its 2021 FFS , there should be no reason any grain co registered with the CGC shouldn't be able to write a cheque after the load is dumped. I am not a phucking bank....Thats where you go to borrow money.

First guys starting the economy are farmers and the last guy paid after all his work is done.

Just phucking stupid in this day and age.

Has anyone of you guys talked to the CGC? If so who did you talk to and what was their reply?

WCWG have a meeting with Cargill big wigs tomorrow.

CCGC says it could take 30 days for the process. Like our checks will be here this week so didn't bother.

There is a easy fix, Don’t sell to those that can’t pay on the day you deliver. The problem will fix itself real fast or that company can close its doors.

I got this from the WCWG today:

                      Dear Wheat Growers Member,

We have heard from many members regarding late payments from Cargill Inc. for grain deliveries.

We have written to the Canadian Grain Commission and cc’d the prairie Agriculture Ministers in an effort to find a permanent solution.

We have also received a response from the CGC, which is below.

We will continue to keep you up-to-date with any developments on this important issue.

                      Yours truly,

                      Dear Mr. Jochum,

Thank you for your message regarding slow payment concerns at Cargill.

The CGC shares your concerns and it is a top priority for us. We have received a number of slow payment complaints from producers and we have successfully worked with them to secure payment in relatively short order. Based on our discussions with executives at Cargill, it appears that the issue has been caused by the implementation new payment software. We received assurances this week from Cargill that the problem has been resolved and that no new slow payment complaints should emerge going forward.

That said, some producers may still have outstanding slow payment complaints to resolve. We encourage them to contact us so that we can bring their concerns forward and help them secure payment. Please note as well that we are seeking more information from Cargill on how many producers have been affected and their timeline to deal with any remaining outstanding payments.

We encourage you to share this message with your members.

                      Sincerely,

                      Doug Chorney

If this was a little company, the auditors would have been at the door two weeks ago making sure the bond is still covering at these high grain prices.

Is Cargill too big to fail?

Probably but Lehman Bros were too big to fail too. There’s absolutely no reason they should be treated any differently then any small or big grain company. This is a massive failure on the part of CGC and just another reason more groups and more farmers should fight back for equitable penalties that work BOTH ways!

Made a few calls to Cargill today, no one was answering the phone today. Received this email later today.

                                Dear Valued Customer,

We shared that Cargill had completed a system upgrade a few weeks ago. As we said then, most of our operations are running smoothly in the new system, but we are still working through a number of payment delays for some customers. We apologize for that and recognize that this can be a challenge for you and your family.

We continue to make progress in correcting the system issues, and our payment processing rate continues to improve week over week. Here are few of the steps we are taking:

We are working with our technology provider to fix the final defects in the system.
We have added a large group of system experts to support our team.
We are actively partnering with the Canadian Grain Commission (CGC) as we work through this transition.

We ask for your continued patience with our local teams as they navigate through issues that are outside of their control. Your local team has been working extremely hard throughout this difficult situation and is dedicated to delivering excellent customer support. They continue to actively communicate the customer impact of these issues to Cargill leadership. Please know we continue to work hard to return to the level of service you deserve.

If you require an immediate payment, please reach out to your Cargill representative or your Cargill location. We will ensure your payment is addressed as quickly as possible. We will continue to post updates on CargillAg.ca as we continue to work through these issues.

Thank you for your business and willingness to work with us as we resolve these issues.

                                Jeff Vassart
                                President, Cargill Limited
