Every article headline spouting “new climate adaptions needed” makes me feel like for the last 2000 years they should have been saying “new, better sealed and insulated buildings”

Why all of a sudden do we need insurance articles to tell us something that has always been done since the day humans started building homes.

In situations like this flood so much depends an who takes charge early as the problem develops.

I realy wonder who that was here. Don't see anybody on any news stepping up.

It’s the general lagress of our society and institutions in general. The general will to do anything is gone. Everyone is shamed down by climate change mantra and being evil settlers. Throw in the covid melee and why bother. Let the whole whole shitshow burn down or flood away. What’s the bloody use. Any bloody thing you do you think you do for the good is shot down by sanctimonious asshats you’d wish would experience what they preach personally rather than let the masses suffer through. I know it’s a poor attitude but I am just mentally done with all this bs.

It's a shame, isn't it. People have lost their livelihood, at least one person has lost their life countless livestock have died possibly billions in damage supply chains interrupted across the country humanitarian and agricultural emergency in the area. Yet some nitwit poster insisted on using this to score political points for his global warming crusade.

Trying to score political points from a tragedy instead of promoting solutions. You don't have to be a climate change promoter to see there is a problem.

Thank you for the support agstar. Denouncing these insensitive politically motivated crazies shouldn't be a partisan issue.
The message to Chuck is a lot more effective when it comes from yourself.

No, when I see an extreme weather event coming to my farm, I blame it on CO2, and those evil fossil fuels. I then go out in the streets to protest, and block trains and traffic, and blow up a few pipelines. I then divest of all investments I have in fossil fuels, and urge my governments and institutions to do the same. I then install some solar panels and wind turbines, and buy a Tesla, but only after murdering all of my methane dispensing cows. All the while, giving a free pass to China, and encouraging fossil fuels from the middle east and FSU.

In the end, the extreme weather still happens, but at least I can sit on my high horse and preach at my devastated neighbors, kicking them while they are down, while I demand that someone come and rescue me using a fossil fuel powered helicopter or boat or four-wheel drive truck or bulldozer or snowmobile.

A5, you ignore the science and evidence of human caused climate change and then you criticize people, municipalities, and insurers who want something done to adapt to increases in the frequency and intensity of extreme weather events?

Nobody will take your illogical rantings seriously.

Governments in BC have been repeatedly warned about the risk of flooding overrunning defenses and infrastructure like what we just saw.

Chuck great article in financial post: “Ross Mckitrick: B.C. floods expose hollow emergency declarations.”
Addresses how governments talk about impending emergencies but do nothing to prepare.

No doubt that is typical gov't inaction. I believe it's incumbent on us all to prepare personally for emergencies. We don't need to be OCD preppers but a bug out bag, standby power, first aid training and supplies don't take a lot of resources to prepare vs trusting lip service politicians. Besides, I want less government in my life, not more.

City wide flood prevention needs city wide effort. Winnipeg built a floodway many years ago. It paid for itself many times over.

Individuals can't build a floodway. We can prepare ourself to a certain degree, but a lot of the work has to be done by governments. And it takes a lot of money. That's why it doesn't get done as soon as it should. Taxpayers often don't want to pay for it.
