    Field Area App or website

Does anybody use an app for determining acres of fields on satellite maps? The kind where you draw around the edge and it tells you the acres. Thanks in advance.

You can do that with google earth as well. But perhaps the apps would be easier to use?

It is hard to be real accurate on acres using these tools. I have done lots of work on google earth and you have to have the resolution less than ideal to get the whole field on the screen. My drawn lines are only within 5% of the acres I get using a hand held gps and driving around the field perimeter. Would imagine the small screen of a phone is even less accurate.

Now 5% is usually good enough for what I do, but wouldn’t want to be buying $8000/ac land or measuring yield trials with the online mapping.

Flat acres are different than sloped or crowned acres also. Pretty hard to account for that on a map but it does make a difference.
