To those who anguish assuming I was literal, I apologize.
Without study, I assume Putin is a perfectly normal head of state for that culture and nation at its time in history.
We have the luxury of looking in and down at despotic behavior past and present, but it comes with a price.
The protective window we view the world through has clouded our vision for too long how true human nature works. We cloak our self in self righteousness while eventually suffering the fate of the naïve.
We need to shape our nation toward just ideals at the same time we recognize the dangers of the world as they are and shall always be. The current Western political direction is ignoring this tenet and chasing popularity at great price.
It is not one world gentlemen, and we are a small part in it.
I respect that in a person who recognizes this truth and disdain those who decry its falsehood.

There was a short series running called Stalin Apocalypse. Can't recall what channel but a series of 4 on Stalin's time as a dictator. Have to admit I never realized what a butcher he was. Explained how the took all the farmland and made collective socialist farms as the state knew what was best for the people. Mostly used local committee's of fanatics who had been conviced the farmers were greedy.

Killed wide swaths of people elsewhere if he though the might oppose him. Maybe worse that Hitler but was portrayed as our ally throughout history with picture's of the 3 allied leaders backslapping and grinning like it was all good.

Must have been a terrible time to live under his rule.

Imagine a government taking away private farmland , strip the life right out of people .

In that documentary it said many Ukrainians saw the Germans as liberators when they first came through but that didn't work out too well.

As soon as you guys finish sorting out who has rightful historical claims to the territory once known as Kievan Rus for the past 1000 + years, perhaps you can move on to solving the territorial disputes in the middle east.
It won't be any harder.
About all I can add, is I'm constantly grateful that I don't, and never did live within the constantly disputed lands of eastern Europe, and was forced to chose sides in a perennial and ever evolving power struggle. Because any allegiance will be wrong, and likely cost your life sooner or later.
