There was a short series running called Stalin Apocalypse. Can't recall what channel but a series of 4 on Stalin's time as a dictator. Have to admit I never realized what a butcher he was. Explained how the took all the farmland and made collective socialist farms as the state knew what was best for the people. Mostly used local committee's of fanatics who had been conviced the farmers were greedy.

Killed wide swaths of people elsewhere if he though the might oppose him. Maybe worse that Hitler but was portrayed as our ally throughout history with picture's of the 3 allied leaders backslapping and grinning like it was all good.

Must have been a terrible time to live under his rule.

    Shocking

Imagine a government taking away private farmland , strip the life right out of people .
No pride in land ownership leads to massive food shortages and starvation.... who would have ever thought . Government should have no role in dictatorship of private farm land .... ever .

And then the Ukrainians that came to Canada
Because they apposed the horrible situation were
        Placed in camps here also.
It’s so disrespectful for people to praise Putin as he
Is trying to do the same as before.

In that documentary it said many Ukrainians saw the Germans as liberators when they first came through but that didn't work out too well.

As soon as you guys finish sorting out who has rightful historical claims to the territory once known as Kievan Rus for the past 1000 + years, perhaps you can move on to solving the territorial disputes in the middle east.
              It won't be any harder.
About all I can add, is I'm constantly grateful that I don't, and never did live within the constantly disputed lands of eastern Europe, and was forced to chose sides in a perennial and ever evolving power struggle. Because any allegiance will be wrong, and likely cost your life sooner or later.

True enough but funny how it has become a major conflict after a pro eu government in the Ukraine came to power, and a pro Russian government was punted after alleged election fraud. We in the west surmise our governments are corrupt and do bad things. Over there it’s apparent.

There is this series of 4 on Netflix, maybe it is the one you are thinking of?

It wasn't the Ukrainians who starved millions of Russians and took their farm land away from them.

That's what the discussion has centered around.

As for territory, does your memory not got back as far as 2014 right after the Winter Olympics finished in Russia?

                      Actualy it's called Apocalypse Stalin.
I had watched 2 episodes and thought I had 2 left but only 1 I hadn't seen so total of 3.

I got it off AHC but it may also be on Amazon prime. Not something your going to watch as family entertainment but well documented history I didn't know much about.
Never knew the scale of brutality.

You could also read Solzhenitsyn to grasp the scale of the brutality.
It doesn't seem that the modern day proponents of Communism have learned anything though.

Story I heard from a history professor in university was Roosevelt was visiting Russia and was amazed at the scale of industrialization the country experienced in such a short time. Roosevelt asked Stalin how was it achieved. Stalin said 30 million. 30 million people. No wonder Russia and Eastern Europe have a rapidly declining population. Between his purges and massive losses of young people in ww2 it has an effect today.

Former US President Jimmy Carter described the US as the most warlike nation in the history of the world. US wars for oil and resources
Why should Canada be involved supporting the corrupt Ukraine government and army that wear Nazi insignia on their uniforms.

My grandmother said you had to look at who's flag was in the courtyard to see what country you were in, neighbor said he lived in five different countries and never left the house. Similar to the middle east, if they have no one to fight with they fight with themselves.

Stalin starved eastern Ukraine while Poland pillaged the west, yet eastern Ukraine wants to join Russia, go figure.
