Our shipping stem publicly known by farmers traders well in advance of loading.
Two weeks ago for instance I was harvesting barley going from paddock to over the side of a vessel 2.5 hours later maybe 3. Vessel had to leave dec 22. Was due to leave on 19th shipping slots showed this.

My “last†contracted load was delivered on dec sat 18thThe company loading the vessel who I had to liaise with said should ring your grain broker might be able to slip a few more tonnes on. So organised one more for Monday 20th 7am.
Trucker rang me and said vessel leaves 1am 22nd there still 9000t short and they can’t wait demmurage $$
Buyer had the tonnes accumulated across my state but couldn’t get freight to deliver it in time. I had 120t or there about s of feed barley for immediate delivery buyer lifted his bids $35 to secure last 9000t didn’t pull it off was 4000t short apparently.
They paid top dollar early harvest to accumulate tonnes. But then wheat harvest came on in a rush and logistically couldn’t get it in.
Currently shipping stems slots all known and commodity. Ships booked up one after the other until early may. So you hold grain in centralised bulk handling system. Warehoused. But you have your tonnes tonnes shown or disclosed. They often come running at last moment especially when you know there short. My elevator is 100 km with rail and road buyers can get grain to port in 36 hours if they can accumulate it.
