Even Steven Harper said we would stop using fossil fuels as energy sources by 2100. Steve the darling of the Alberta oil sector said that? LOL
Bullshitting you say, from an article in theenergymix.com, March 12, 2021, “Toronto has become the 21st Ontario city, and by definition the largest, urging the Ontario government to phase out fossil gas-fired power generation as soon as possible, after councillors and Mayor John Tory adopted a resolution supporting a provincial ban by a 21-2 margin. I believe Vancouver as an example has put in its building code no natural gas hook up to new construction. So no I am not bullshitting.

At 7:48 today 1.86% of Alberta’s power is coming from hydroelectric generation, wind 8.1%, solar 0 and natural gas 70.2%.

Good to see your not on board with Mr Treudau's unattainable 2030 target Chuck. Might be some indication other like minded may see them as pie in the sky promises he is known for.

Lets go with Harpers goals. By 2100 they won't even know what you are talking about.

Isn't it just heart warming on a cold day to see Chuck making so much progress towards accepting reality.
I honestly had zero expectations that all of our efforts would ever yield any results.

That takes a lot of guts to publicly go against all of his previous stances, and against his own NFU, and the policies of the NDP and Liberals, to refute the propaganda coming from the CBC, the Narwhal, the Tyee etc.
Perhaps he will start bringing this common sense to the next meetings, and in his letters to the editor.

And more amazingly, to openly contradict his fellow former CWB left wing posters, such as Integrity Farmer and his anti natural gas rhetoric.
That is showing some real integrity.

If Chuck can see the light, then maybe there is hope for our political class after all.

I am guessing this long cold spell has made Chuck realize how important that gas line running into his yard is.

            How true.
But it does bring up one important question. If no one knows what the energy system will look like in the coming decades, how can we possibly mandate an outcome only 8 years from now? Doesn't that indicate that someone must know, otherwise how could it be mandated? Our politicians wouldn't possibly mandate something without knowing how or if it is possible would they? Keeping in mind that 2030 is only 8 years away now.

Maybe by 2100 Harper will be right
But until a viable , affordable, reliable source is ready for western Canada , the Liberal targets are complete fairy tails that will cause tremendous hardship in cold climates like western Canada especially

A5 What does 2030 have to do with Canada's pledge to be carbon neutral by 2050?

What mandate in 8 years are you referring to? Are you making stuff up again? Or do you just don't know what you are talking about?

Canada's commitment is to go net neutral is by 2050.

"Canada has joined over 120 countries in committing to be net-zero emissions by 2050, including all other G7 nations (United Kingdom, United States, Germany, Italy, France, and Japan), A number of provinces and cities have already made net-zero-by-2050 commitments, including Guelph, Vancouver, Hamilton, Toronto, Halifax, Newfoundland and Labrador, and most recently Quebec. Prince Edward Island has also pledged to reach net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2040. Nova Scotia and British Columbia have put into place, or plan to put into place, provincial net-zero-by-2050 legislation."

How Canada can decarbonize by 2050

                      https://www2.deloitte.com/ca/en/pages/strategy/articles/how-canada-can-decarbonize-by-2050.html

Deloite lists in broad terms the following that can be done to get to net zero:
Renewable energy, Nature based solutions, energy efficiency, electrification. fuel switching, methane management. They also cite several emerging technologies including carbon capture utilization and storage, hydrogen, direct air capture, small modular reactors.

Who knows what will be accomplished by 2050. But are you sure that we won't be a long way down the road to getting to net zero?

But since you believe more carbon dioxide and greenhouse gases in the atmosphere are a good thing there is not much point in you discussing how we are going to get to net zero is there? LOL

Meanwhile, it must be difficult for you to witness the shutdown of coal fired plants, the adoption of cleaner gas and the rapid and large installation of renewable energy capacity in you beloved Alberta. Jeez A5 that sounds like the momentum to net zero in Alberta is happening whether you like it or not.
