I saw quite a bit of discussion regarding APAS in Saskfarmers Thursday musings. I don't really know the new guy but some on here have opinions. We do pay APAS fees in one of the rm's we farm in. That's one thing that's different that rm by rm make the decision to be in or not. I admit that I don't really follow those guys much. I would say I feel they have matured quite a bit from their early days. Most on here seem to hold pretty well all commodity and farm groups with distain. I guess I havent really bitched at the local rm for being members of APAS. I sorta felt that someone has to do something but man to try and get two farmers to agree on something. At the end of the day if enough people don't like what they are doing and people take their money away they will go away. I guess the alternative for the disgruntled is to get involved and see if they opinions are in the majority and make changes that they agree with. I remember the days when the SWP had a hell of lot of influence on ag policy and I sure don't wont to see that happen again. I happened to look up the NFU website a while back and wow I'm sure not on the same page as those people. I do carry a membership with Sask FSA for a number of years and feel their efforts have been worthwhile for me. I have had a WWGA membership from time to time but with them I feel they have some characters involved that don't help their cause much and gets under my skin for a time.

Ever notice how the same people just keep moving around to different boards and yet never accomplish anything?
Why with all these different farm groups nothing changes?
It always seems there is an excuse.
Do realize politicians haven't did anything since may of 2021.
The ag committee has met picked a chair and decided to look at the PEI potato problem first. A motion brought forward by former newspaper editor and conservative MP ag critic John Barlow.
Barlow hasn't mentioned the western canadian drought in his ramblings in committee.
And conservative MPS with the current 6 weeks off don't answer emails . I guess they are too busy.
I was told an email should be responded to at the very least as a courtesy.
Can someone name one effective change has been done by APAS?Last edited by bucket; Jan 21, 2022, 09:47.

What exactly has apas discussed regarding
The drought? Have they addressed the crop insurance
Inequality? Premiums? Agrisrability other than saying
It will pay for contract losses which it hasn’t to anyone
In our area. And have they addressed the obvious fact
That program is useless due to most farmers just saying
Fk it and opting out? That should tell everyone the facts.
So many ranchers quit sold out? No feed not adequate help for
Feed. Deferring income on selling low priced
Cattle to what buy high price ones to get back in wow
What help is that?
Cost of inputs
Availability of inputs?
Fuel screw job?
Provincial sales tax that hits farmers more than
City people?
Want more?????? List is endless of the incompetence
Of the ag department fed and provincial

I find alot of cheerleading on SM for people that are very incompetent. And what is even worse is when other incompetent people that haven't accomplished anything during their farm group tenure cheerlead.
We get what we deserve. i guess.
Boxall might think BRMs are going to change , they won't, both governments have said they are not willing to make any compromises.
Carbon tax / sequestering program ...the statement has been made notill farmers are disqualified.

NFU has sent letter to ag committee chair to investigate fertilizer prices because the conservative MPs can't figure it out themselves.
While many farmers may criticize Freeland for being a journalist,,,,Barlow is a former newspaper editor.
Tell me the difference in experience on the files they work on?

I hear ya. I guess the thing is that if enough people take their money and go home then the groups will just wind down. I think we are going to see more of that frankly, if they don't have support and no body is willing to pay the bill. Farmers have never been on the same page and getting any two to see things the same way is impossible for a lot of things.
On this contract issue the views ranged from guys wanting their bill to be totally covered after they contracted 40 bu per acre to the other extreme that couldn't see the problem with huge fines accessed to farmers by grain companies on a very irregular basis.
I remember the start of APAS in some pretty bad years where guys were not happy with what was currently being done and felt something else was needed. If these outfits are fixable and you can get others to agree with you and support you I think you would probably do some good to get involved your self Bucket. I am not saying that as a joke ether. The industry needs champions that will step up and for new blood to come forward. I did a rm stint years ago and got off cause there is enough new bodies around to bring new ideas forward. cheers

I have given it plenty of thought until you start asking questions of the politicians and it dawns on me there is alot of incredibly stupid people in politics and bureaucracy.
As an example a question about the high price of fertilizer to a conservative MP comes back with this classic.
"""""Fertilizer prices have reached historically high prices, as well as global supply chain challenges. Globally, prices for fertilizer have been pushed up by a multitude of factors. Higher prices for inputs used in fertilizer production, including natural gas and coal, are playing a part. Fertilizer exports have been restricted in China, where production was recently affected by a shortage of coal. Russia has also placed quotas on exports of fertilizer, a move that was signalled in November and took effect as of December 2021.
The prices of inputs into agricultural production are growing fast. The prices of fertilizer and fuel, the cost of drying grain due to carbon taxes, clean fuel standards and now inflation threaten to make all food products less affordable for families.
More concerning, is a new Liberal policy to put a cap on fertilizer use which would only make things even worse. It would increase the price of food and limit how much we can grow, not to mention that the policy would be devastating. It would bankrupt Canadian farm families. According to a study by MNP, the 30% reduction in fertilizer will cost our economy about $48 billion by 2030."""""
its all bullshit and it is obvious the conservatives are not going to call in the fertilizer companies to explain gouging and collusion. They are worried about the reduction of fertilizer the liberals are proposing but not much about a look into fertilizer prices.
Nitrogen is made here with cheaper canadian natural gas FFS.
While Poiievre talks about inflation with on home grown or domestic production the rest of the conservative fall into the liberal trap.
The only fertilizer we need to import in Canada is phosphorous and the reason it has gone up is because Mosaic lobbied for protectionist tariffs and our retailers refuse to bypass the american supply chain for it.Last edited by bucket; Jan 21, 2022, 17:45.

History will prove he accomplished very little of a substantial progress in this province.
He certainly didn't know what a cow was when he was premier , now he is a laughing stock at some ranches.Last edited by bucket; Jan 26, 2022, 10:02.
