There should not be a fertilizer shortage in canada. We should be self sufficient in nitrogen , potash and sulfur..
If we are it is on purpose. Plenty of nat gas . Yara was talking of twinning Belle Plaine years ago.
They probably could have had it paid off by now.

Has to be farmer owned and closed loop. Another problem not enough economies of scale to small.
Get in bed with miners who need urea for explosives maybe.
It’s a hard one. I agree in principle.
Sort of been there done this a bit.
Tangled up in fert importing yes not manufacturing for 6 yrs
Big guys put us out of bussiness in the end when we became a threat rather than annoyance

Why don’t we farmers instead of just bitching
About the obvious things that are wrong do something
About it?
What’s hitting our area is this.
Crop insurance is totally out to lunch some
Farms in areas that didn’t suffer drought or
Hail will have 600 to 900 dollar
Acre coverages maybe even more with low
Premium and farms in areas through no fault of
Their own except the clouds never rained will
Have less than half of that and double or more
Premium it s a fact.
Is this right? What’s happening right now is
Mega farms from 100s of miles away are offering
Crazy rents or to buy land here. No one local
Can match that. Those bids are supported by
Crop insurance. So the drought continues and next year
Those farmers will be in a claim the locals won’t
Due to low coverage. Those outsiders will collect
Mega payments. Someone tell me this isn’t
A farce to say the least???
With the shit coverage we have here fertilizer
Will be cut if prices fall for our crops our
Area farms will be wiped out but replaced by
Outsider farms. It’s already happening exactly
As I said. The outsider farmers are not getting
Any better yields than us here in fact some lower
But they’re laughing all the way to
The bank.
