I agree and see the difference in the way the protests are viewed by Ottawa. Having said that I wanted the police to intervene in those past blockades and I also want them to in this one. There is no difference to me, breaking the law and or taking away other peoples rights / freedoms and livelihoods is where the line should be drawn. The police should make sure everyone that decided to stay after they were asked to leave peacefully yesterday should wind up with a criminal record and fines and have the vehicle they used in the blockade be impounded afterwards for at least as long as the blockade lasts.

The mayor of Ottawa was suggesting looking at suing the protestors for the $1 million per day that is costing the city.

It probably won't go anywhere.

In both Ottawa and Coutts what's to stop the police from arresting and charging protesters who won't leave other than the escalation risk?

I cant imagine many of them would want to face all the potential legal problems. Especially the more serious criminal code charges.

There is no upside to dragging out a protest of a few hundred people that's not going to have much impact in the end.
