The illegal senseless blockades at the border and the illegal occupation in Ottawa were tolerated far to long.

Even the Conservatives quickly flip flopped and realized they would be tarred by their support of truckers and the massive disruptions and economic losses that they were causing.

Bergen and company look like enablers.

If Charest runs they might turn their ship around but as it looks now they are going to blow themselves up again. Harper is going to try and torpedo Charest's chances. So how is Harper going to stop all the moderate Conservatives in Ontario and Quebec from joining up and supporting Charest?

That should drive more of the moderates over to the Liberals. Harper was hated even more than Trudeau at the end of his career. But he was good at keeping a lid on the various wacko loose cannons in the party.

..."Our far-sighted “Horatio at the bridge,” Mr. Trudeau, will also once in a while miss a thing or two. There was that WE boys thing, and some racket about SNC-Lavalin and an obstructive attorney general from out of British Columbia if I remember correctly. Mere trivia in context. And what’s a useless election in the middle of a pandemic?

What counts however is that he brought the hammer down when it counted. And is being lauded the world over for the courage and insight he has brought to the most critical moment in this proud nation’s entire history. I have used these words of Cicero before, but never have they been as appropriate.

I will give them in the original Latin first, mainly because it sounds so good: O Fortunatam me consulam natam!

And in less melodious English: O Happy Rome, born when I was consul!

Oh happy Canada, that I was there to save you, would be the perfectly appropriate updating.

I should end this brief appreciation of genius leadership by noting it has inspired other countries. Just today Ukraine has declared a 30-day state of emergency. This is the same length as ours, but in Ukraine’s situation it comes with a lesser threat. Just a massing of Russian soldiers on the border threatening armed invasion.

It’s not like some insidious workers are parking their trucks and setting up bouncy castles. Now that’s an emergency!

Senator Plett had the Senate past the point of approval… and in this vote of the Senate was independent of the House of Commons… as well the Emergency Act charges that the Senate to determine ‘at the actual time of the Senate Vote ‘ this evening… that the Senators determine that the Emergency Act needed now… not last week on the 15th of February.

Clearly with the banks returning funds to the majority of protestors… the financial operations were completed.

Therefore Senator Plett had met the standard requirements to refuse approval of the Emergency Act this evening.

Then Senator Plett told the Senators that there was no point in the Senators voting… because if PM Trudeau was reasonable… he (PM Trudeau) would revoke the Emergency Act before the vote was scheduled this evening.

An hour later PM Trudeau did exactly that.

Finally a reasonable decision by PM Trudeau.

With the writing on the wall, and the invasion of Ukraine by Putin imminent... PM Trudeau was backed into a corner... no doubt... Trudeau and Freeland are intelligent... don't kid yourself.

Don't underestimate their capacity to evoke the: compassion, forgiveness, and tolerance; of Canadians.

Establishing reasonable base lines of analysis... of what reasonable Canadians are feeling and thinking... like Senator Plett did in the Senate yesterday... is required to overcome the 'spell' Trudeau and Freeland hold over Canada.
