    Faba beans

Not an option for us this year , soil profile just too dry here . Hopefully the soil moisture profile recharges this year and maybe next year . We will be all peas this year for pulses . Not wild about that but even black beans are not an option with insane fertilizer prices .
Got good green peas cleaned and ready so will gamble with them I guess .

What are others thinking? Obviously lentils south of here .

Peas usually only general pulse here.
Acres down generally because of soil disease pressure. Very few fabas here.
Sticking to greens myself because of seed. But will be looking hard at switching to yellows moving forward.

Red lentils are the only pulse we play with here. Too much disease in peas.

Staying 1/3 of our rotation, no change.

Feel the same about Faba's here. Lots of snow but ground dried right out so the risk would be to great to take. Peas a safer bet if dry.
Rotation a little messed up this year because of the apparent lingering effects of Viper!

Faba have been around since the early 70's when peas got going here.
It was always suggested that they had advantages over peas like easy harvest and better for the soil.
When low tannin came along they got more promotion and fair bit of success.
Last year a freind was up to 1000 ac after some real good crops in previous years with good moisture. Said right now he is not planting any this year. We have huge snow but the ground is dry.
Lot of his crop was pretty good last year but the Faba need good moisture to make any yield.

We are out this year. Too dry last year and yield was pathetic. Prices gonna be good cause there won’t be much around next fall.

I would if I had ground for them. Wet enough here.

We're sticking to 1 quarter as planned. Not as dry here as other places, though still dry. But you really don't know what the weather is going to be like this year so I don't put too much emphasis on soil water conditions. 2020 started out more on the dry side and turned into the wettest year in decades.
