    Maybe Retime To Rethink.

We always thought these people were crazy. Now they think we are the crazy ones paying these ridiculous gas/fuel costs.
That would be a good way to “flatten” the curve.

Does anyone have any insights as to how the profit margins in organic versus conventional might look this year? With fuel and steel prices way up the advantage goes to conventional, but with fertilizer and chemical prices way up the advantage goes to organic, but have the price differentials kept pace with the massive increases in conventional grains?
Is hobby farmer still with us?
How were the organic crops around the West last year? Was the extra moisture loss due to tillage a big factor?
I was talking to my off-grid neighbor yesterday. They are feeling quite smug right now.

I think a blend of ideas is more in order. If you have green barley and barley alone growing in your field in the fall, and it is moist and a traditionally wet area, why spray it out? No perennial weeds in sight, just a carpet of barley with living roots.

I know the answer. The answer is , because that’s what we do, you can’t have green in the field, then neighbors might see it. Besides, they all sprayed their green fields too.

It does not have to be all in. It is not all or nothing. I have avoided in crop herbicides when you have a well timed burn off. Sure, there are a few weeds, but they aren’t being selected for resistance. They aren’t affecting yield. Is there seed back? Sure, but weigh the options.

I always find it so amazing how guys who think outside the box are ostracized like they are some kind of freak.

Organic guys could learn from conventional guys. Conventional guys from organic guys.

Why does it have to be cut and dried all the time, all in or nothing? Why can not different ideas be possible?

There are a lot of viable solutions that fall halfway between. But unfortunately, the market doesn't reward any of those actually sustainable lower input solutions. So we are forced into either extreme
