It doesn't matter how much you scream your equipment cant get built-in time.

So used is going up like vehicles and sea doos and boats and campers and lawnmowers etc.

Welcome to the new world these might be deals. When a new tractor is 820 large that Case looked cheap at 555.

You still need equipment to farm.

One that really caught my eye was the Estonia sale, a 1978 Case 2870 with 6028 hrs. Went for $51000 CAD. What got me on this is I remember back in the eighties my Dad talking about this one neighbour who had a Case 4wd and I can’t remember the model, very easily could have been a 4490, he was using it on his John Deere pull type combine. The pto drive went, he had it rebuilt, lasted not quite another season, it went again, he had it fixed and sold the tractor. Now full disclosure, my father was very partial to John Deere, myself I have a couple of John Deeres, I have a couple Versatiles, some New Holland and quite a few Case ih pieces of equipment. Anyway I thought it was a lot for an old Case 2870.

I was talking to a salesman yesterday for RME, he said unfortunately many issues with new machinery showing up late or not at all. Lots of guys traded their tractor, the dealer sold the trade and the new one hasn’t arrived. Quite a cluster f##k apparently. One other thought, there was a new Bourgault sitting there, I am going to guess from memory a 3335 drill, 86 feet with a 1300 bushel cart. I asked him what it was worth, he said roughly $900000. The guy traded in 2, roughly the same drill and bought 2 new ones. I just shook my head.

Who's to say that guys buying now aren't the ones getting the deals?

The current prices being paid for used equipment could be the new normal.

With shortages everywhere and difficulties finding workers, raw materials, supply chain issues, the war in Ukraine, and the price of new equipment, what will used farm equipment cost five years from now?

Not to mention current commodity prices.

Many many farmers out there have old money, so I don't think the it's as dire as many of you think it is.

Agriville only represents a small fraction of the number of farmers out there. Many producers hold their cards close to the chest and never reveal their financial situation.

There are a few posters on Agriville that have been stating the "bubble is going to burst" for ten years on Agrivile, farm land prices and home values are going collapse, and we're still waiting for that to happen.

Who knows what the situation will be in five to ten years, many will not sit on the sidelines waiting for what might happen.

I asked her about fuel bills, taxes, breakdowns, problems and she just tells me that she’s rich. Seems a little easier than going out to deal with some first calver in the dark and wind. 🍀
