One that really caught my eye was the Estonia sale, a 1978 Case 2870 with 6028 hrs. Went for $51000 CAD. What got me on this is I remember back in the eighties my Dad talking about this one neighbour who had a Case 4wd and I can’t remember the model, very easily could have been a 4490, he was using it on his John Deere pull type combine. The pto drive went, he had it rebuilt, lasted not quite another season, it went again, he had it fixed and sold the tractor. Now full disclosure, my father was very partial to John Deere, myself I have a couple of John Deeres, I have a couple Versatiles, some New Holland and quite a few Case ih pieces of equipment. Anyway I thought it was a lot for an old Case 2870.

I was talking to a salesman yesterday for RME, he said unfortunately many issues with new machinery showing up late or not at all. Lots of guys traded their tractor, the dealer sold the trade and the new one hasn’t arrived. Quite a cluster f##k apparently. One other thought, there was a new Bourgault sitting there, I am going to guess from memory a 3335 drill, 86 feet with a 1300 bushel cart. I asked him what it was worth, he said roughly $900000. The guy traded in 2, roughly the same drill and bought 2 new ones. I just shook my head.

It doesn't matter how much you scream your equipment cant get built-in time.

So used is going up like vehicles and sea doos and boats and campers and lawnmowers etc.

Welcome to the new world these might be deals. When a new tractor is 820 large that Case looked cheap at 555.

You still need equipment to farm.
At one recent sale there was a double anhydrous tank sold for $100000. I haven’t used anhydrous in years, is that price out of line Saskfarmer?

No. New ones are well past the $100000 mark

I built and priced a similar truck on GM canada website. $68000. But you have to wait 5-8 months to get it. So if you need a truck today, you godda pay 52000 for a 14 yr old truck i guess.

Ordered new drill last year May 7th with Jan build date, it was built about that time. (Vaaderstaad) It showed up at dealer last week, our old drill left the shed Thur/Friday. It wasn't going until we knew it was ready.
Talked about ordering a Case Quad to pull it, but July 22 delivery date, went with Versatile and was delivered in August. Sprayer delivery was June 22, knew we could get the Apache through burnoff no problem, but found one at dealer that had been a loaner to someone that sprayer promised in spring didn't show up until late June. 220 hours, built just like we wanted. Got it in August.
So we knew that delivery is main issue when buying new. Watched a 620 Quad at Craven yesterday, 2200+ hours went for almost what we paid for new Versatile, so very happy with Vers purchase. It is 3rd in a row and all have been great.
Good luck to anyone being forced to buy right now. We didn't want to be in that position.

Local consignment sale this week featured a Versatile 976 with 7800 hrs that was previously sold at the consignment sale last November. They did get a bit more for it this spring so it did pay to store that unit over the winter. This was the Allan Olsen Lamont county sale.

If only I would have bought a used tractor in Jan, wasn’t quite what I wanted, was being to picky I have found out I would have gained 10 percent on my money in three months. Hard to achieve that return anywhere else in a short time frame

Did anyone notice there are very few private sales around also? Kijiji is stuffed with auction listings and consignments.

The 4WD I bought 14 yrs ago is exactly the same price now with almost double the hours.

only problem is that even if thactor is worth same price as 14 years ago the money is only worth half or less !

Notice a fair bit of steel on kijiji that shows up a month later again for a little less so I guess it all doesn't sell that price everyone wants but you have to start somewhere. Remember the good old days if you paid to much at a farm auction there would be a "gasp from the crowd" when the auctioneers gavel came down and some half drunk guy would shout is that guy nuts. Now just push "WINNING " button at kitchen table and nobody see's you

Coincidentally, I happened to be sitting in their yard, looking directly at that very tractor as I read your post yesterday. The staff were very pleased with the prices on nearly everything at the auction.

This increase in values of well used equipment really puts a kink into my business plan though.
One of the things that really allows us to be profitable out here in such a high risk area, has been the availability of dirt cheap used grain equipment. Once something is too small or too old, or too obsolete for the real grain farmers, it used to be nearly free at auctions. That has allowed us to keep our expenses at a level that is in a league of its own according to the accountants. If that era has come to an end, it will make quite a difference to the bottom line.

Not in any desperate need to upgrade anything right now, but the irony is that after a few years of good crops and good(lucky?) marketing, we could be in a position to make some upgrades, but refuse to at these prices.

2 years ago I decided I should make my Morris Contour 1 into a strictly canola drill.. get a larger second drill for cereals and a larger tractor to pull it.. I looked all over but couldn't find what I wanted at a reasonable price..

Last fall the search began again... by the end of Sept. I had a drill bought and the tractor search narrowed down to 2 tractors. I found large numbers of drills and tractors advertised, drills were cheap and the tractors were reasonably priced..

As soon as the drill was bought I ordered Bourgault V packers for my Morris(I like the design and price of Bourgault's V packers compared to the Morris) and new 3/4'' seed boots. Seed boots arrived at the dealership the beginning of march... packers still haven't shown up, So I bit the bullet and bought Morris packers.. If Bourgault is having supply issues with the V packers, I wonder how many New drills won't be delivered?

actually had the 2 tractor dealers bid their tractors down, saved an additional $18k when I signed the deal.

I'm very happy that I did my purchasing and parts ordering last fall.. I've got the junk I wanted at a very reasonable price compared to this springs prices..

I'm worrying about breakdowns and part availability.. when U order parts 7 months out and they don't arrive.. I'm hearing truck and Ag tires are Very expensive if they can be found.

shit could get real ugly really fast.

                            Good Luck everyone

yup the v packers at Bourgault are back ordered. the other day was told 30-60 days. Drills going out from factory with no packers. It gonna get interesting. I am told that the rounded packer wheels are available. Personally I prefer the V packer wheel . We are waiting on a few but can probably find usable ones in the junk pile.

Talking with a bourgault dealer friday he told me the 4.5 rounds I have sitting in the shed are probably worth double what the v packers I replaced them a couple seasons ago , he said they have 40 in stock and wont see anymore until after seeding, He has 10 mid row discs again doesn't think hell see more until post seeding, said they'd ordered 550 got 200 in the winter.
