No more cheap reliable coal fired generation in AB.

So the net zero loons are continuing their destruction in Alberta. The first of the last 3 coal generators (all at the Genessee plant SW of Edmonton) is being converted to NG. These are the newest and best coal fired units running with the latest commissioned in 2005. The promise is no more coal by 2023 so get ready for much higher heating costs and rolling blackouts next winter. With utilities competing with home heat we will see costs for both power and gas rising a lot. I have an 8.49cents/KWh contract through the REA until Dec 31 and was looking to lock in for 23 but nothing available yet. On an REA here. Have a generator but getting it started when it is -30 would be a challenge. I have written to my UCP MLA about this but you never get a response from her about anything. Are the coal plants in SK safe? Poor cattle guys will need to convert all their waterers to those propane fired ones for next winter or burn wood.

I seen an ad looking for linemen in California. $85/hr all the hours your want to work. Overtime after 8. $4000 US Tax free housing allowance a month.
Is the green electric everything going to find enough workers to supply power?

It's about paying world price for energy while sitting on your own.

They are already being converted here in Sask. and a couple new NG generation stations are being built from scratch.

There is going to be a huge shortage of nat gas in Feb march if it’s a cold winter. Don’t have to go to far back in time find a shortage

All for the fake premise that we are warming up. It really is hard to believe ho our country has fallen.

And because we're all on the same team, the transitions are being subsidized by clean Quebec Hydro............

Why is coal better than natural gas?

Just wondering if the govt makes the same amount of carbon tax between coal and nat gas for each kilowatt produced. Natural gas has a high carbon tax on it

The carbon tax on natural gas has to be lower than coal though right?

Is it still ok for BC to mine and haul out coal by the ship load ?

Yes because that coal is used to make steel.

And nature can tell the difference between the CO2 released from coking coal making steel, from the CO2 released from thermal coal making electricity. Only the latter causes catastrophic global warming, of course
It's the same theory about how burning fossil fuels to power an electric vehicle doesn't release any CO2 as opposed to burning fossil fuel directly in an internal combustion engine.

Kinda shows this is a race for your energy dollar and not about the climate

No but there are probably 10 different ways to make electricity and only 1 way to make steel.
Also if you can show me the math that says burning fossil fuels to power an electric vehicle isn't better than using fossil fuels in an ICE, I'd like to see it. These are 2 of the dirtiest grids in Canada...

It's hard to see because this website is awful for posting pictures..
Nova Scotia grid (50% coal) on an EV is 8.62kg CO2/100km vs 17.3kg CO2/100km ICE
NWT grid (57% diesel) on an EV is 2.37kg CO2/100km vs 17.3kg CO2/100km ICE
