Seeding Dates With more Snow on the Way what's the Magic Day?

So we had some snow again this past week and I just got this week's weather and it looks like the pattern is the same. First a Low from the north then a Montana low coming up from the south. Normal patterns that you want for the summer growing season, not spring.

So We still have back roads that are plugged solid and fields have some snow left in them with min melt and yards still have snow. Can see both Anhydrous tanks just can't find the hitch or wheels yet.

So what's everyone's guess on the seeding date for their area.

For us, I will say May 9th week because the sun is strong and when it's out it's warm but on cloudy cold days, the ground freezes still. Digging with track Hoe and ground still frozen.

Yes, I am being optimistic but realistically I would say should be rolling full force the week of the 16th with drill one Seeding Canola and Drill 2 doing wheat. Peas and Barley look like zero acres right now.

So whats your guess for seeding date and why?

Sometime in May, dirt is still cold and hard every morning , seed will just sit there - rotting.

With a disc drill ground doesn't get the warm up like a bourgault rock digger.

That's why Degelman Rock pickers are selling more for used than Brand new today.

BTW , is a degelman rock picker an option when pricing out a bourgault drill? hahaha

Or do they just throw that in for free.

Hoping to start seeding here next week. Still cold at night though , had an overnight low of +1 degree C last night , and that's the first night in 2 weeks we were above zero. Meanwhile , it's calving time and I am 3/4 done with good luck so far! Happy about that.

Got machinery to get ready and making progress with that stuff. Grass is trying to grow , but slow until plus temps overnight increase.

Talk of snow on the way again , but I will believe it when I see it.

            You get two free. Bucket.

Cold today snow won’t melt again.
Maybe kill some old dead heads with the track how today. New trees on order and again I’ll plant more than a liberal.

No one should discount the value of their rock piles.

The cost of a picker , tractor, labour. Plus a profit, and cost of replacement.

              Very valuable rocks.

Take 15 minutes and watch the newest weather updates in the weather thread .
Will be a while yet .
Hopefully before the 15th May here .
Any later start and the risk going into fall gets high regardless of the “longer” growing seasons we are supposed to have

May long weekend maybe. Not kidding.

Hoping for a long open fall.

                  Climate change is such bunk.

No high above plus four until May. Then a whopping plus seven. Most highs are zero to plus two. 60 to 80% plus snow cover in fields, and the snow that’s left is deep. Twelve foot snowdrifts in treelines and back roads. Strangest “runoff” ever. Water is collecting but seeping downstream under the snow in a tiny trickle into the dugout.

if this forecast is accurate, end of May. At the earliest. Still have a few years to go through in my books, but I have yet to find an April where it did not get above seven.

I find it fascinating in a morbid way. It’s not funny anymore actually. The growing season and grass growth is getting to be an issue. Personally, with lambing set to start, the challenges are enormous due to inability to move the sheep around. Barn doors frozen down, gates impassable, alleyways blocked. Lots of digging to do. Pretty sure we will run out of hay. Last time I checked, grass doesn’t grow under snow. Fun times.

The folks like chuck and his band of climate alarmists must truly find this amazing. Me? I’m just amazed how fast the carbon tax kicked in…

Another thing I was wondering about. With the avian flu, and zero migration so far, the birds are obviously down south somewhere, more congested than usual. I reckon this will cause more rampant problems than if migration was on schedule and normal dispersal was ongoing. With this forecast, I see no reason for songbirds to come up here until well into May. At what point does it mess with usual nesting success? April is a loud month for bird life and frogs croaking etc. Was patrolling the snow covered fence yesterday and it was silent. April 18th, and no geese, no robins, nothing. It dawned on me how odd that is.

We need to face the fact 2022 is a cold spring and no two years are the same.

Liberals created a fake climate change bullshit that changes nothing.

Greta is not a scientist she’s a pawn.

Have a great day I’m hoping by the 16 th full going both rigs doing wheat and canola.

Looks like barley and peas not going to be seeded.

Most snow is gone. Some hanging on in draws and north slopes. Supposed to get a dump tonight but I’ll believe it when I see it. Think I’ll start harrowing next week and probably start may 5 unless we get a snow. All the snow soaked in and that is helpful I guess.
