Well, the week is shaping up to be a lost week, you can only clean the shop so many times and change the oil in everything from tractors to Augers now. Next week looks like we get Sun to Wednesday night then a low again. Not complaining but it's almost April and it would be nice to finally see the Anhydrous tanks as they are still under the snow.
Lately, I have been wondering if the voice of Sask Ag that gets interviewed every week it seems from the west side is losing his mind. Kev it's time to just farm and shut up already you are so far out in left field its not even funny. The article in the Western Producer was weird.
Auctions continue to be fun to watch and wonder what the hell is going on, till you order tractors for 2023 and see the price that's when you get what's happening to used equipment. Dealers aren't giving farmers enough for good quality trade-ins so farmers are finding them on their own.
Total Moisture in April that fell as rain so far is 4/10 for our farm plus snow and snow and snow.
Today I have a guy coming to change and fix tires on tractors, Local is gone and Regina just doesn't seem to work for rural tires so have a guy we know coming and he shows up tractors are in a heated shop fixes patches change whatever you need and gone. One other job is done.
Land rent or purchases are still min in our area some aren't getting paid what they should be and others think their property is worth what Taber Alberta is worth and won't sell. You need land to farm and it's not moving this spring.
Crop Report.
A snowstorm happened but the last one was further north of us and we only got a skiff. The one to watch is Saturday for our area could be rain snow sleet or who knows what it's tracking further west than Manitoba and could be a huge dump or a shit show again. I'm hoping for rain to melt the snow we have. Fingers crossed it's rain.
Seeding intentions are starting to look like two crops with peas being dropped and Barley also not getting seeded unless were June. Local Terminal which is known for being the slowest place in Canada to unload isn't even in the ball game for fall pea prices. They think it's 2019 all over again. Malt Barley is a dead horse that the Liberals in Toronto in their Brew Pubs don't want to pay for the product needed to make beer. Maybe they should rent out their halls to more people so they can pay for the product.
So what is the plan
5000 Canola all liberty.
5000 Wheat and its 100% Starbucks, Alida is done, and we are dropping Brandon.
The one good thing about the late spring is some guys will actually get their new drills and tractors for spring seeding. Others will get the trades and life goes on.
Shortages are all over and the latest is Zero Turn lawn mowers, try to find one you have maybe two choices, and that's it. Need a Jet Ski your on a waiting list for July. New Trucks well let's just say you're ****ed.
Speaking of Farming i have to ask a Question
Do we have a Federal Agriculture Minister because since the last election has anyone actually seen or heard from BOBOO?
One thing to note for the crop reports a big area of Sask and Alberta still needs moisture and one rain won't fix the issue of Drought from the last few years the ground is bone dry below.
It's a Red day on the Markets this morning who knows why, maybe Russia pissed left or Right or maybe profit or loss, or Some country thinks food has to be cheap that's all they have left.
Also, the Big hitter in Alberta that was seeding then done and gone on holidays back in March how is the Crop doing I'm curious.
So here is to hope the west gets some rain, southern Manitoba and ND dry out and we all can get seeding by the 9th of May or sooner.
Stay safe and have a great week.
