Friday Crop Report on a Thursday.

Fun times last weekend as we got shut down due to rain again. Yep, when it rains it pours and when the tap shuts off it closes tight.

What's up with all the wind. It sucks the life out of the farmer plus the dry crops. Yes, it dries out our land so we can actually seed but it's taking moisture out of areas that need a good rain and that's not good.

Trudeau is out in Calgary and it seems the **** Trudeau crowd showed up to let him know they hate him late last night at his hotel. Poor little ****ing fool. It's you your government and the NDP that people are mad at. We don't want your Bullshit anymore. Canada is the only country with masks and stupid lockdowns. This is all about control by a spineless fool.

Oh, the Great fool decides to take away handguns from law-abiding Canadians but leaves gang-banger with a get-out-of-jail-free card and min sentences hidden in the gun bill.

Phone any gun shop yesterday and you will find they are so busy it's not even funny with people who have their Restricted buying whatever they have left in stock.

Oh, there is a Video of our Ag Minister BoBoo explaining how we are the only country in the world who have a 35% import tax on Russian fertilizer that our farmers have to pay because they are helping Ukraine. Then the fool goes on about how Canadian farmers should produce more to help with the world's food shortage. But then she can't explain the Gov position on Fertilizer reduction that they want Canadian farmers to due. Is she that stupid how the hell do we get massive production without fertilizer use. Oh, give money to a company to make lentil screenings into organic bullshit. **** me this Government is stupid.

Ok ok, so here is the crop report.

By tonight we should be at 25% left to seed or 75% done. Yea after the rain crop can go in fast and it is if everything works great. Most in our area and north could wrap things up by Tuesday the 6th if all is good. I'm still betting on us finishing on the 5th which isn't our latest seeding date but a decent finish in a rough year.

It's muddy over here and you really have to watch but the land isn't totally saturated like some areas where you simply can't move or seed over an area you already seeded.

Guys are starting to panic and spray whenever it has to be done.

Yesterday was the first day we had to sit waiting for Anhydrous as the truck didn't get from the Hat to our area on time and all three Bullets were empty. Then a run from that truck and another delay and then it adds up fast. But the funny thing is all fertilizer is available and it was just a ****ing joke of a shortage. Made up Bullshit.

Probably the same for Liberty and Roundup and every other thing they can think of.

Grain prices are crashing the last little while I guess the market that knows thinks we have a bumper crop on its way so here is some facts for stupid people.

One is wet in the east and wet usually makes grain in moderation but when whole fields have water on top and don't dry down till mid-June and you seed the outcome usually isn't great unless we are frost-free till October. Go check Climate action Canada to see the last time that happened.

Second, the Dry areas are dry and the ones that got a little rain up to a couple of inches are being hit with the massive rains to help dry them out even more. Drought isn't over and the weather pattern is setting up for a high over the west to block all rains for another two weeks. Yea like that's a good thing.

The third crop that comes up and is frozen three out of the last four mornings my that's a bin buster there.
Fourth now guys are finding grasshoppers in fields hatching so more good news for the bumper crop.

Five basically can't figure out why in Canada we tell the world all is good when in reality it's going down the ****ing toilet every day with this year's weather pattern.

It's June and yield drops the further out in June we seed. Simple fact

So off to spray before the hurricane winds start again and then on the seeder till dark.

Have a great day and stay safe it's just a ****ing crop that they are trying to take already.

Oh, the more good news just out from Environment Canada expects a cool wetter summer on the East side of Sask and Manitoba this summer.

So were basically seeding like crazy to get wiped out is what they are saying.

More later the wind dropped a bit so here we go.

Long range says NOTHING changes! April 3 degrees below normal...that's DEATH. Cold but dry WTH?
Agree FROST will take anything that is growing by August-September.

My streak of not putting a kernel in the ground in June is still holding. Finished May 31, @ 11:55pm.

Cereals all seem to be germinating fine, peas are anywhere from just poking the ground to 3 nodes. I've never quite figured out why some peas drag their ass, but others are out immediately? Last meaningful moisture event was May 19th, so i suppose that was what it took to get them going, but it seems like they do this every year!

Mustard was the last crop done... It could be my best decision, my worst decision, or perhaps my timing really doesn't matter. It's all up to mother nature here now. There was a pile of 3 leaf buckwheat, lots of kochia, and a carpet of russian thistle in places at burnoff, so hopefully that's all that decides to come for the year. I got most of it into moisture, but would imagine that I'll have patchy germination until such time as mother nature figures we've suffered enough and can bless us with some moisture.

There's been a total of 3.6" of moisture since sept 1 of last year, which leaves us nearly 3" behind normal. Realistically there has only been about 1.25" of meaningful moisture as the rest of that came during the winter (which nuked off 2 or 3 times with chinooks), or was a series of little more than heavy dews measuring 0.1" or less.

The grass here shows it. Ditch grass is burning down already. Can't say I've ever seen crested wheat not head out, but this will likely be the year. It'll be thoroughly cooked before any forecasted rain decides to show up. Brome grass is heading out just above your ankles. Native prairie appears to be heading back into dormancy. It's done until something meaningful shows up.

Early seeded crops are REALLY going to take it on the chin this next couple weeks. There is extremely limited soil moisture and those seeded the middle or end of april are starting to really add above ground mass. Root systems will be digging for whatever they can find, and these cloudless windy days are going to transpire alot of moisture even though it isn't 80*f out there. Later seeded crops stand a slightly better chance of holding out till the middle of June, but if we don't see significant moisture by then we'll be out of the game until next year.

Hoppers are getting hungry, the gopher population is wildly increased over last year (thank you ag canada for banning strychnine!), and insecticide is flying off the shelves fighting flea beetles.

Good luck everyone, we're sure as hell going to need it!

                          92% done.
Hope in a week or so before deadlines to get some of that 8% yet.

So in the end, was everyone who waited till spring to get fertilizer able to get what they needed? Were there actual shortages within western Canada? Were the logistics in place to get the supplies here for those who waited till the last minute?

Or was it just all about paying enough to keep the local supplies home instead of being exported that world prices?
