    Low Quality Crop

50 days heat and off the charts humidity, heavy dew ever morning and showers every other day. Wonder whats the quality going to be like.

Some guys with still flowering canola need 6 weeks frost free. Durum still a month off here for most people. Lentils, I shudder to think what might be coming off.

Not like last year. But soon we’ll see. Hoping for long hot harvest to get her in de bin.

Wheat and barley lodged bad considering newer varieties less prone. My old school splendour a real short maturity is lodged enough and not dying off as usual. Didn’t use fungicides neither and Viewfield ripening faster. Lodged crops will feed pigs chickens and cows before it’s sold as a 3 bread wheat.

Have to expect the grain companies will be tougher than ever on specs and grades.
They will be sending boatloads of pre contracted at higher priced product into the usual suspects that will reject it at any opportunity to replace in with current cheaper replacement.
Already happened with first shipment from Ukraine.

I don't think lower prices will be looked at by traders without some trepidation.

            Disagree.

Future weather is more Guessing and Hallucinations.

TOM, we need the frames for the Precipitation Forecast during those harvest months, that's probably more important than temp.

No lodging here, that's for sure. Wheat looks sadder from the sprayer than the road. And you can easily walk through the canola. Will find out pretty soon with this heat. Canola still looks green , but seeds are 85% black.

ALOT of #3 and less durum coming off here on account of weight. Southern AB buyers have been posting a #3CWAD price now, when it always used to be #2+

Early wheat and barley stands that came up thick are now producing lighter weights. Poor stands are nicer heavier kernels. Lentils are total hit and miss ranging from 2 bushel to 32

It looks like the next 2 weeks in Western Canada are forecast to be warm and dry.

Therefore no frost in September and to be generally dry in western Canadian Prairie

                              Cheers
                              Happy safe harvest!
