So…..how many of the respondents in this thread lined up to the trough and took the 60,000 CEBA loan, fraudulently applied for the rent subsidy or the longer term wage subsidy????

There is no mention of any of these programs in this initial review but its coming

For the record, i applied for NONE. My farm benefited from Covid because of cheap diesel fuel and i was able to keep operating with very little impact unlike many other businesses.

I hope the government comes for all fraudulent takers of the 60,000 loan including farms.

I took the 40,000 and the employee subsidy, my opinion is that the money is from our tax dollars and we had every right to apply for these programs like every other Canadian Business. Sounds like a bunch sore losers on here.

Wow, that’s quite the sensible reason. The purpose of these programs were to assist a business that were in desperate times because the forced lock down or substantially reduced business activity that followed.

I guess we should all put down a bunch of fictitious expenses and claim big tax losses on our next tax returns to get back taxpayer money we are fully entitled to.

                Finally! Someone says something sensible!
( full disclosure. I applied for the 60 k business loan and paid it off 3 days after receiving it... bcuz why not) is there any difference between that loan and agrinvest? Quick answer.
                Nope.

My bank was after me to take the ceba loan, i told them i would be lying tru my teeth if i applied.Covid times were good for our farm, cheap fuel, fert. chemical, etc. There is a reason they had you go tru your bank for the loan, now cra has your bank accounts on file for the audit when it happens.

Farmers didn't know if they would be affected by covid or not at the time of application, the ports were pretty much closed, sea shipping was slowing right down the railroads were at a standstill. People were supposed to be dropping dead everywhere...remember rinks were to be converted into morgues. Hindsight yes we did all-right but we were definitely thinking about laying off employees and stopping any capital purchases because of the unknown. It was not only meant to prop up buisnesses but to inject capital into the economy to keep it going, which it did.

Definitely was a tremendous amount of uncertainty, people should not judge farmers who did or did not take the CERB money. Ports were closed , transportation was nearly non existent.
Even getting inputs was dicey in spring 2020.
We never took it , but won’t judge those who did .

As for CERB money that flooded out of the country , absolutely that was wrong and should be investigated harshly

I didnt take and dont judge farmers, but anyone who has been around the block a few times, knows these cobbled together programs get abused and trigger audits.

This program is even worse. In addition to audits they have open criminal investigations. Lots of people took that money and bought boats and 2nd homes which are likely to be liquidated for payback. Teenagers got money, prisoners, unemployed, foreign students took the money and bailed out of the country.

Easily the biggest fck up in canadian history and now we are saddled with that debt. Cant get blood from a stone. None of these people will be paying it back.

Not judging either but I honestly didn’t know about the programs let alone apply. Might need a new accountant.

I did know about the income replacement subsidy. But someone mentioned 60 000? I dunno.

Totally agree jazz, our neighbour was able to get 240,000 ,(himself, spouse, and two boys). My cousin works part time for SCIC,you would not believe how some farmers try and screw that program.SCIC should hire more auditors, they would easily pay their way and weed out the bad ones that we all end up paying for.
