For sure. But let's not ruin our economy long term to gain votes short term.
Of course the NFU is welcome at the table. I just feel our other industry groups are navel gazing eunuchs.
I don't feel we're served by Stats Can generalizations. And govts don't seem to know the difference.

My view of the NFU today is a membership that is mostly on first name basis.

A friend of mine used to be a director.
I haven't seen any indication he has any involvement for years.
Used to be an small active enclave west of me but basicly literally died off.

I’ve thought it would be worthwhile for real farmers to join the the loons and push the loons out but it’s be like a Jew joining the nazi party to change things.
        Greater majority?
Shit they don’t have 1% majority and they are treated like the gospel??

I try to never speak in definite terms unless I know the concrete numbers but in my opinion yes their support on the prairies is probably closer to zero than 20% and I am being generous. If it wasn’t for they’re in with the media and the Feds they’d be a memory of their best days like the SoCreds. Think Ontario farmers have to be members of the nfu as Bob Rae in the day mandated such. I don’t know anything how they are funded but maybe this is how they get the bulk of their funding. Certainly it doesn’t originate from prairie memberships.

"Saskatoon, SK— Monday, December 12th the Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food, the Honourable Marie-Claude Bibeau, announced the launch of consultations to develop a Sustainable Agriculture Strategy (SAS) in collaboration with a diversity of partners. The intent of the Strategy is to support farmers while building the sustainable agricultural sector.

"The NFU’s Director of Climate Crisis Policy and Action, Darrin Qualman, has been appointed to the Advisory Committee. Darrin will bring deep expertise on agricultural policy and farmer-led sustainability solutions in agriculture."

There's our farm rep for the "committee" that will decide what's the best policy and how much paper and red tape is needed to farm day to day in the near future.
Mr Qualman wrote a report you can read on the NFU website that basicly says farming would be better and more profitable if we didn’t spend money on inputs derived from petrochemicals including fertilizers.
Might be good enough to make him Chairman?

Socialism loves committee's to do the dirty work.
They are the perfect way to achieve predetermined results while pretending it's the choice of the effected target.

. And people wonder why it scares me having a son interested in the farm, words I thought i would never utter.

And if you wonder where things like 30% reduction in fertilizer emissions "pops" up from nowhere....

                        Be wise, be informed.

Darrin Qualman appears to be a complete quack.
                          A Jeffersonian view for agriculture.
Someone please tell him it's not 1790.

I urge everyone to look up who is on that advisory committee.
We all really are just frogs in a pot.

The NFU has been lining up to fit the current agenda for several years , putting people in place to follow lockstep with UN / Canada 2030 goals . They feel empowered now that they have some influence and the ear of the Feds , and feel relevant for the first time in their existence, hence their holier than thou attitude recently.
They should actually change the name to NHFU to be honest, and represent that small segment of farmers , they do it very well .
Be interesting to see what percentage of actual Ag production the truly represent.
