The term going away is a misnomer. Russian products are being redirected, to China and India and in some cases sold back to the west. The Ukraine grain corridor was meant for Africa, but Europe took some of it anyway.

Zeihans right about globalization, its splitting in 2 along with USD hegemony. And yes that will make supply lines much more tenuous and create shortages from time to time.

And yes he is right about EVs, we will send oil to $300/bbl trying to achieve a 5% penetration in these things until we run out of those critical minerals all together.

How much more grain can Russia produce and effectively get to a marketable position in this present situation and going forward? They have a shit ton of good land in the west and an even bigger shit ton of marginal land to the east but production swings are more drastic and quality to boot. An overland journey to china makes North American wheat across the pacific to Asia like a walk to the kitchen. No doubt Russia is tenacious and can suffer through. I’ve often wondered that Russia would be better suited as a meat producer than anything. Only downside they’re in the disease cauldron of Eurasia. Russia can flood the world with tons of marginal at best grain but it’s target market is the poorest of the poor and the world needs it but how does their industry get anymore value to improve without adding to the value? It’s like their O&G. We’re about in the same boat but not a second world without centuries of harsh regimes corruption and mismanagement.

You wonder. Russia is dry as is Argentina. Western Canada isn’t much better unless we get a lot of rain. Lots of snow and no frost underneath but don’t go far and it peters out. Heard Russia cut half million bpd in retaliation for sanctions and price cap but most probably their productive abilities are faltering because the multinationals pulled out like what happened with Venezuela. How’s ag fare? It’s been a year.
