Drove the whole farm trying to find some land to start on.Still need a few days to get started. Very few weeds if any , only volunteer canola I could find was on south side of a rock. Cold nights and wind , still jacket weather here.

Nice picture, but a bad omen.
Ya got windy again yesterday afternoon
Red sunrise , sailors demise ?
Hopefully just recalibrate and check scales and rates this morning and get this one doing some acres . There are several of these SM SR’s running in western Canada
Actually chance of thunderstorms today , would be ok with that after a week of steady wind .

Sailor take warning.
Anxiously awaiting your wheat trial with SR.

Antler Farms in Alberta has been running an SR for a couple years . They on twitter .
They have graciously shared some info with us on their experiences, as well as a few others
Always best info from other farmers with experience

I would be quite surprised to see the SR yields to match a 12†paired row in wheat or barley. In the right environmental conditions it might but over the long run I don’t think so. It would sure make things easier if you could use the SR for both canola and cereals and more cost effective, hope you achieve the results you want.

Seeder configurations success is highly dependent on environmental conditions for both germination and precipitation or lack thereof during the growing season.
For dry land western Canadian small grain production…. Seedbed moisture conservation for the majority increases yield, your farms micro climate determines which seeding equipment is best for your farm. To the extent understanding this is possible … constructive management adjustments are productive.
Understanding and wisdom… are valuable partners in finding risk management strategies.
Cheers and Blessings for our seeding 2023 !!!
Changing many variables…. Is often counter productive!

I agree with the exception of canola. You need to seal in the moisture but over packing on our soil causes soil to bake hard and canola not able to break tru. The best drill we ever owned was a ih 6200 disc press drill. In canola we would take out the little pressure pins and just let the weight of the disc assembly set the depth. Grew amazing crops with that drill, simple , easy to set however had to be almost black dirt to seed into.
