Friday Crop Report on a Thursday.

Good morning. May showers bring life to the prairies but wet snow and rain delay seeding a lot.

I said we would be finally going between the 8 th and 12 th of May and even if it wasn’t very much it’s started.

In our area you have the just got to go mud players, and some that have so much they have to start so do on lighter dirt. But basically no one is going full bore.

Yesterday a little rain storm crossed the valley and picked up all the way to Manitoba. We averaged 4/10 across the farm but as it went east not sure how high the amounts went.

Next week is very hot temps but we still have Friday's low pressure to get by first.

    Crop Report.

Seeding is in full force in northern and western side of Saskatchewan. The Se and east central is behind. Province is at 12% completed.

The ground still has frost in it on east side.

I am surprised a few peas and lentils are going in on east side. Most are seeding wheat right now. Friend in NE Sask has 17000 acres of wheat in already, no snow and no rain so just seed.

When we really get going about 10% to 30% of the fields won’t get seeded due to excess moisture. Sprayed a half the other day and water all over the place.

So good luck all hopefully you get the rain and stay safe it’s just a crop that they are working over time to take. Kansas Oklahoma Texas are ****ed. Australia could be dry and who actually believes Ukrainian farmers are seeding in a war zone.

    Happy farming.

Half-inch would be a boon, 2 inches would be a bust for Gumbo Flats. Not much going on yet east of Regina. I haven’t seen the BTO’s going around here yet, but we are trying out the equipment. The fields are moist and gotta go around a few lows but all in all, seeding conditions are marginally “sweet”? Saying is, “ Make hay while the sun shines.”

Conditions still good here for now
Around 50% done , 80 % on the wheat , 10% on the canola, first wheat should put of the ground tomorrow.
Still the odd snow bank leaking out of tree lines
Weeds growing fast , thank god the wind went down here

The areas we deep ripped last fall , really gotta watch , had a few close calls with drills .
But it worked for the most part . Areas we can seed through we never touch in May , let alone before the 15th while there is still water in small potholes in same fields we never ripped
Been an interesting experiment. From what I see from sprayer we will actually gain a lot with efficiency on time overall with all passes .
Not all areas turned out good though . A few small spots are bottomless soup holes but 1/4 the size before . We found that out tonight.
Not bad , got lucky and got out .
Huge hard snowbanks this winter in areas still causing very wet seepage along a few bush lines.
98% good to go , 2% slop in those spots
Overall we in very nice conditions though …… so far.
10 to 12 days from now without rain will be a totally different story with temperatures expected.
Hopefully be done in 8 to 10 days if our luck holds somewhat together but every day is 2 steps forward, 1 back….. always something it seems .
But like most here we push on only to get beat up constantly by those that don’t have a clue about the actual farming. work and stress it takes to create vastness of wealth we do to keep the world eating and many people employed.
Ahh farming is sooooooo easy a few nitwits say LOL
For those already way to dry and those facing very wet conditions, chin up and best of luck and stay safe .

Couple guys started around here, most hadnt moved yet. Rainout today. Maybe Monday/Tues start.

Walked some fields, still some very spongy spots and some standing water in low spots. Not going down very fast.

Got going on Monday, conditions are moist and still going around some wet spots, should be done our wheat by Tuesday if all goes well. About 20% done in this area, most guys just getting started.

I’m 1% ahead of the provincial average. Long as I stay ahead of that all things good. Should be done in time for a June 1 finish. Will have to push hard to accomplish that.
Half inch at my farm, just enough.

Started Monday with wheat. Got blessed with a ground pounder with hail pellets on Tues so water ran to low spots. Shit showers since. Looks to resume this afternoon. Got some spraying done if you don't mind some tracking here and there. At least the shit showers are keeping the crust soft that came as a result of the ground pounder.
