And there's the problem. Drills need straw management. And we're asking it to break down faster, without tillage.
Seriously considering a 7 bar mid harrow here. Case combine the worst. Never ends.... Maybe an SR drill?..

That Elmer 7 bar is an outstanding machine
Still have BG mid and heavy harrows
Don’t use the heavies at all anymore
Case choppers suck , Elmer cleans it up

Looks like the “rain event” has fizzed out for this area . A few got lucky a couple days ago with some thunderstorms in area .
Hopefully not a pattern set up where rains go to chances then to nothing .
Will still need fairly significant rain in this area to get an average crop .
The tank was at zero to start before snowmelt

When it rains, it pours.

Up till Monday June 13, we were sitting at 1.4" of rain since Apr 1, one-third of seasonal average. Cereals are doing OK but heading out already in some areas south of me where they must not have got as much rain. Canola and newly planted alfalfa really struggling.

I took a snapshot of the forecast that morning, they were predicting up to an inch to today. Well we've seen 1.5" and now the forecast has 2.5 - 3" over the next 7 days.

Things sure change fast. Went from a near-drought to wondering how much crop will be drowned out. Everyone was excited to be seeding corner-to-corner in May, but if that 2" comes to be on the weekend, we might as well have skipped over those extra acres. Meanwhile, cutworms are eating up the canola on a clay piece that we haven't been able to spray due to wind.

I'm happy to have this rain to get the canola and alfalfa going. Not sure if it's too late for the cereals... will probably tiller like crazy.

At least we got all first pass herbicides on in good conditions. That was a real blessing. This time in 2020 we were rutting up every field.

Got 1.25 inch yesterday and this morning. Looked at early seeded wheat this afternoon and it has started to head out already so it is done. Last rain there was May 9. Now a flood is on its way here east of Edmonton so late flush weeds in a thin crop. Looked at another field in the area and it is doing the same. Further east where there was a bit more rain and better land quality most of it is still good and will benefit from this rain.

We haven’t had a measurable rain now for over three weeks. Only 30 plus temp and wind. Oh and lots of hoppers. Sprayed all the canola and edges and ditches on rest for them . Without rain soon they can have it

Coragen a little pricey but works great 2 weeks control, locks up their jaw and doesnt kill any beneficials.

Big hatch in places out on the pastures.
Don't know much about hoppers but have seen them when it's hot and dry.
I'm hoping the reason we don't see them much here is they get some kind of fungus if the have to live in damp conditions.
With cooler weather and heavy dew with better forage cover hopefully the dont eat more than the cattle do.
If all those little buggers grow up and start flying it will be bad.
Anything I have had to do with spraying them has been disappointing.
