Friday Crop Report on a Thursday

Good morning we finished seeding on Monday moved north and will do some custom seeding to get everyone done.

Big rain event hit Regina to fort last night.

Total rain for the farm from May 1 till today 4.5 in for three of the weather stations and 2.5 at the yard.

We’re not the wettest area that goes to edgeley to the fort swamped and hit again last night.

Guys still seeding due to rain delays in that area.

    Crop report.

Yes some areas are dry but some are approaching too much water. We have crop yellowing from excess rain.

Seeding province wide is 97% done.

Hrs. It’s amazing wheat seeded three days ago is up and wheat seeded May 15 is growing fast some is past optimum spraying.

    Fields are clean.

Peas and lentils don’t like water and lentils are struggling. Peas ok but it’s viper time and that delays a week.

This year we are using a yara product with viper plus other product to stop week delay we’ll see.

Flax is looking ok but we will see if rain keeps coming.

Oats not a lot in our area.

Canola is coming along nice best start in years. Flea on some early seeded but not bad. Some liberty going down.

We will start next week after the wheat is done. Fields clean so far.

So emergence was great for all now the excess rain is becoming an issue.

Last night we had 1 to 1.39.

West of highway 11 git over an inch last night. East got nothing, we are at 1.4 inches since april. Crops look ok from road but when you get into them they are going backwards. Hills are stunted, hoppers are showing up .Another two weeks with no rain and high temps, we will be toast. At least we have crop insurance, loaded up on hail insurance yesterday.

Should finish the liberty today once the temp warms up and plants dry off . In the meantime finished flax yesterday and started the 2 nd shot RR this morning
Wheat all done but 100 ac seeded later
Crops look good for now but will need a seriously good rain by next week or things will be bleak here in this pocket

As of today I think I may be in a claim position this fall. Hard to look at for a whole year. Rest of month will tell.

Really nothing has changed, just getting drier everyday.

too much rain or/and the nitrogen getting leaked down below the root level???

                    thoughts?

Combo of both Sask. Need O2 in the dirt and something to drive the roots down to catch the N. Perfect scenario is warm weather but not hot and very little rain

Just back from a bike tour. We traveled Hwy 2 from Okotoks to Edmonton. The bread basket area of Alberta is getting torched. No relief in site. Storage will not be a problem. Cash flow, well that's a different story.
