Friday Crop Report on a Thursday

Been so busy trying to get my piece seeded and sprayed haven't paid much attention to conditions elsewhere. Looks pretty bad in some areas out west.

It is getting to the nitty gritty here. Hay crops are burnt or burning up depending on the quality of land they are on.

Later seeded crops have a bit of emergence issues, but they aren’t burning yet. Early seeded crops are starting to show signs of stress. Another week of no rain and hot temps, and she will likely be a write off. 1.5” forecast to start tuesday around supper, and rain all the way through Thursday. That would be a crop saver for sure.

One of my hired guys said earlier this spring that a friend of his was bragging a bit because he was done before we even started seeding. The same hired guy said today that this guys crops are all but dead or dying. It sure puts into perspective how one decision can make or break you for the year. Flip a coin…

Lots in the same boat, we’ve had 1.2” since snow melt and will be needing a drink in the next 7 days to sustain this crop. Hopefully everyone gets their rain this week. They have been pushing are rain ahead for a while, hopefully this one comes thru.

Yup , early seeded crops west of here with rain will most likely have great crops of great quality …. Again
Late seed crop here with very limited moisture will be late and most likely have quality issues with frost damage due to poor emergence and patchy crops .
It’s a catch 22 , there is no right or wrong in farming. Every year and every area different nearly every year

Finally picked up a couple of showers tonight, lots of lightning and came down fast. 7/10’s sitting in the gauge tonight, expect their will be a lot of variance when I check all my gauges tomorrow, but this was definitely a million dollar rain for us. Hopefully no hail was in the mix.
