    Starlink

So… it’s getting pretty cheap to sign up to Starlink and we are seriously considering it. Right now we have Shaw Cable at $165/ month and Sask Tel internet for another $170. I would like to hear what experience others have had with the switch.

I pay $147 a month for Starlink. It’s been almost a year and a half and I could count on one hand the times it’s dropped connection for some reason, and that’s never for very long. I also have it placed in a terrible spot so probably never really achieve peak connection and speeds.

I don’t have any cable but pay less than $80/month for streaming services. Various news channels can be found for free. I use a Roku for these different services as it’s everything in one place. You’re looking at 70-100 for one of those typically, one time purchase.

Starlink supports mom having the tv going almost 24/7 as she just leaves it on when she goes outside. Which is why I never gave her internet streaming access on Xplornet because it would have used all the data up in two days and chokes our speeds down. Starlink manages two TVs streaming plus phones and/or computers at maximum house use and you’ll never notice a drop in speeds. They had put an excessive data choke on it which will slow down households that use over a TB of data a month. That’s an exorbitant amount of data so harder to hit, plus I want to say I seen it mentioned they removed it now, but maybe not.

Overall it’s definitely worth its costs. There’s not many places that can have comparable internet for lower, especially when you get rural.

I can't understand why Sasktel doesn't offer Starlink to its rural customers instead of trying to locate a tower to point to.

I think our Sasktel internet will be disconnected if we find starlink effective.

        Starlink soon to be gone
,with fiber in place. Starlink has been okay with speeds from 0 to 50. It depends on your zone . Some areas up to 300. They have dropped equip charge as they are losing to fiber
        .

Where the hell are they installing fiber because it’s definitely not here.

Can’t lose customers to it if it isn’t available. No company is going to invest in miles of fiber installation for a couple houses.

They buried fiber here to within 13 miles. I don't understand how it will feed to enough users that would cover the cost of burying all that line. First they buried plastic hosing and then thread the cable through that. Time will tell. We have shitty rural tower internet that requires a booster and directional antenna. Starlink only recently available.

Love mine, 147 for great service vs 70 for garbage. Plus its portable.

Fantastic, bought two units a month ago, equipment was on sale I don’t recall the price, each unit is $170/month. Can have 4 people streaming in the house and you don’t even notice it.
I am going to get the Mobility unit for my truck next month because I go north a lot and no service for 8 hours at a time (which is both good and bad).

There are a number of providers installing fiber here. There are about 2 installs per mile of fiber. We are in rural Mb

Im thinking Telus has its hands full in the cities here. 10 years later and unburied lines lying in road allowances. Right beside large terminal and small town. Not confident.
I would have Starlink if I needed it.
I'm lucky with my location and usage. Broadcast service here. Don't need to mess with a Telus Hub over cell thankfully.
My biggest hang up is service.
                    Current provider outstanding and local.
Don't wish to become my own tech.
But I'm lucky I don't need Starlink yet.
What are other's experiences with support??

Got Starlink after terrible service with other systems. Has worked great. I wish all the things I have bought worked as well with no problems. Cost per reliability has been excellent.

I don’t have mine secured well so it blew over once. I messaged them through their app as it didn’t just find a signal again when I flipped it back up. Within half an hour they had replied with several things to try which got it going again.

I can traumatize myself thinking of tech issues.
