Some alright looking crops around the country at 65mph from the highway. Earlier seeded stuff has several stages of growth which makes the big yields and quality hard to hit. The North American crop is in trouble for both yield and quality. The only consistent stand I have is oats on grass breaking and hay. Wish I planted more oats.

The more I check my crops, the more the realization sets in that this is going to be a stinker. Wheat headed out below the knee, plus I don't see any tillers that are going to make anything. Huge blank spots in the canola fields, and no I'm not going to post any pictures because it's that bad.

Just my opinion, but the futures seem more global (and unpredictable) with the basis local. Strong Canadian dollar isn't helping basis but I think there will be a pretty small crop in Alberta, and the locals are going to have to bid up to buy product. I also believe farmers are more optimistic on their crops than they should be. If you caught a rain at the end of May and got a couple inches 10 days ago, then maybe you'll have a chance. I've got 2 out of 25 fields like that. Maybe it's just backyarditis and I'm off the mark. My biggest mistake so far this year was putting that last $10 into NH3 instead of crop insurance.

Yesterday’s forecast was for 60% chance of rain today, this morning its reduced to 30% and 29 degrees. But they can predict global warming within 1/2 degree 20 years from today.

That is one sad looking crop. I received early hail on some wheat, along with an inch of rain. Might have helped more than it hurt.

Sorry to see that furrow. Never a good feeling when that happens.
