Good morning it’s an early start because it actually might be calm today for a bit. I have 4 sections of Canola still to spray before we wash sprayer then rinse rinse and rinse and start fungicides.
Farm progress show in REGINA I attended and actually it was better than last year. Found the things I wanted to see except I thought someone might actually have the new grease gun adaptor to hold onto tough Nipples. Construction in Regina is brutal but they had a plan.
One comment on old age and our health system. We planned for our family and thought we covered all the bases. But found out that after Covid our choice for homes didn’t do plaintive any more. My father is failing and is in the Pasqua but now we have to find a new home for him. We have and July 3 he will move into it. Things can go smoothly but sometimes between the social workers and DR. AND MANAGERS. It can go side ways. He’s 94 coming 95 and we know his time on earth isn’t very long, he wants to go home . It’s a matter of days so all care is given.
Trudeau maybe look after our old instead of bringing in a million new Canadians.
Crop report.
Seeding is done the cowboys organic and even the crop insurance guy finished yesterday.
Total rain since May 1 is 7 in down to 5 in for the whole farm. That’s data from 4 weather stations on the farm.
Hrs believe it or not the early wheat seeded five days before ours is starting to head. We are in shot blade on early stuff. Late looks great and catching up. It will need a fungicide soon so have to finish the canola spraying soon. Drowned out patches due to rains is common in our area. Some leaching of fert due to wet conditions.
Barley doesn’t like excess moisture and is having some issues this year lots of yellow fields but dryer pattern for a few days May straighten that out. One field is heading by town.
Pulses. Peas and lentils don’t like water but it seems lentils are doing better so far. Peas are up and down between fields. Could be years between seeding on certain fields and excess water. Did give one half crop aid to perk it up. Early seeded have started to flower and later are right behind. Spraying fungicides will start soon.
Flax has drowned out areas but looks good so far on rest of fields.
Canola is starting to fill in on late fields and cabbage on others one field seeded early on way back to city is starting to flower. Early at Indian head is flowering.
Looking back to last year and how late seeding was compared to this years late seeding it seems to me that growing degree days and heat units are on our side the crop is further advanced this year by a lot.
We always tried to have canola flower farm progress show Monday after and guess what it’s going to happen on some fields in 5 days.
Hey thunder in the park land is Friday in Yorkton go have some tractor pulling fun. If this was the USA farmers would have lined up to take their pullers out.
Brother on trip to Illinois Iowa Kansas that area is dry.
Have a great week and stay safe.
Midge for those who don’t grow midge resistance wheat should be checking if you’re in the red zone. Hoppers are coming out for others and some still haven’t got much rain.
