Good morning it’s an early start because it actually might be calm today for a bit. I have 4 sections of Canola still to spray before we wash sprayer then rinse rinse and rinse and start fungicides.

Farm progress show in REGINA I attended and actually it was better than last year. Found the things I wanted to see except I thought someone might actually have the new grease gun adaptor to hold onto tough Nipples. Construction in Regina is brutal but they had a plan.

One comment on old age and our health system. We planned for our family and thought we covered all the bases. But found out that after Covid our choice for homes didn’t do plaintive any more. My father is failing and is in the Pasqua but now we have to find a new home for him. We have and July 3 he will move into it. Things can go smoothly but sometimes between the social workers and DR. AND MANAGERS. It can go side ways. He’s 94 coming 95 and we know his time on earth isn’t very long, he wants to go home . It’s a matter of days so all care is given.

Trudeau maybe look after our old instead of bringing in a million new Canadians.

    Crop report.

Seeding is done the cowboys organic and even the crop insurance guy finished yesterday.

Total rain since May 1 is 7 in down to 5 in for the whole farm. That’s data from 4 weather stations on the farm.

Hrs believe it or not the early wheat seeded five days before ours is starting to head. We are in shot blade on early stuff. Late looks great and catching up. It will need a fungicide soon so have to finish the canola spraying soon. Drowned out patches due to rains is common in our area. Some leaching of fert due to wet conditions.

Barley doesn’t like excess moisture and is having some issues this year lots of yellow fields but dryer pattern for a few days May straighten that out. One field is heading by town.

Pulses. Peas and lentils don’t like water but it seems lentils are doing better so far. Peas are up and down between fields. Could be years between seeding on certain fields and excess water. Did give one half crop aid to perk it up. Early seeded have started to flower and later are right behind. Spraying fungicides will start soon.

Flax has drowned out areas but looks good so far on rest of fields.

Canola is starting to fill in on late fields and cabbage on others one field seeded early on way back to city is starting to flower. Early at Indian head is flowering.

Looking back to last year and how late seeding was compared to this years late seeding it seems to me that growing degree days and heat units are on our side the crop is further advanced this year by a lot.

We always tried to have canola flower farm progress show Monday after and guess what it’s going to happen on some fields in 5 days.

Hey thunder in the park land is Friday in Yorkton go have some tractor pulling fun. If this was the USA farmers would have lined up to take their pullers out.

Brother on trip to Illinois Iowa Kansas that area is dry.

Have a great week and stay safe.

Midge for those who don’t grow midge resistance wheat should be checking if you’re in the red zone. Hoppers are coming out for others and some still haven’t got much rain.

Your crops look really nice. Man I wish we could get some luck like that over here in the SW corner.

Crops have recovered somewhat here from a very dry 30 day period after some rain Sunday.
A few showers since and cool temps have given the crop here a chance to get back on their feet for now

Still will need much more timely rains , a long ways to go but we have a chance at a decent crop here at this point .
Crops much better west of here , other areas got burnt out NE of here and most likely too much damage done regardless of weather here on out .
Again we right on edge of both , better than some areas , not as blessed as others .
Will need a good rain here again within 10 days or we will hit a wall . Soil moisture was completely used up before Sunday so will definitely need more to sustain crop growth now

I can say I have never seen crops go backwards after a rain until this year.

Guys had beautiful crops , are now stunted and yellowing looking like they may not head out. Very strange. I am wondering if all the chemicals applied during dry years is actually being washed in? Don't know but there are strange things happening .

Anyone heard of chemical damage to lentils from last fall's application of fierce?

Lentils sprouted, got to surface , stopped and shot out another shoot from below. and tried it once more.

And frogs, holy shit never seen frogs like this. In one ditch I thought I should spray for hoppers until I had a closer look.

A lot of crop flash in cereals happened in the last 10 days , some severe.
Crops sprayed 2 -3 weeks ago had very little.

Certainly an interesting point. Went crop checking yesterday and was quite surprised. I expected all the crops to have improved from the rain but some of the wheat had definitely gone backwards. The one crop of wheat was the last one I sprayed. Used Simplicity and Buctril M. I think it must have been to dry when it was sprayed. Earlier sprayed crops definitely look better.

I have seen crop go backwards many times when excessive rain comes early in the growing season.
The ground gets packed and all the oxygen and bug life are pushed out. Fertilizer gets leeched down and roots can’t grow in water logged soil.
I find that once that happens it’s hard to recover.
                      Early rain is poison!

Ya dark brown frogs eating grass hoppers. Lots of them after the rain the other night. I think there is damage from Valterra as well in lentils, even with plenty of moisture. Sure is convenient to spray it on but im going back to edge.

Good for another week to 10 days. Then will watch the blue return.

Canola looks great on all fields. Wheat about half our acres are short on moisture. Even if it kept raining we don’t have the homerun fert program to make a bumper crop. But glad to see the crop where it is today. Very fortunate after 2 years of disappointments.

Seeing some Lontrel damage in lentils from an application from 2021. Just where we doubled up, but that's what it lines up to. And we had good moisture in 2022

I just saw this on Twitter written by someone from india. What does Agriville think, is this accurate?

Under ideal weather conditions, the average yield of wheat and barley in the Canadian province of Alberta will reach 60-70% of the average level of recent years. After the prolonged drought, the height of the plants is only 15-17 centimeters.
